DEMOCRATIC SLEAZE FEST
New York Post ^ | May 14, 2005 | Editoral Staff

Posted on 05/14/2005 8:14:30 AM PDT by Commander Salamander

Character assassination apparently has become the Democrats' stock-in-trade these days on Capitol Hill. Witness Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who departed from his prepared text to denounce one of President Bush's judicial nominees — a victim of Democratic filibustering — by saying the judge has "a problem" based on "his confidential report from the FBI." Reid wasn't offering up any details — which his office seems to think lets him off the hook. Because the problem is that those FBI background reports, as Reid himself conceded, are "confidential." And Senate rules prohibit a member from publicly disclosing confidential information — on pain of possible expulsion from the Senate. In fact, access to them is supposed to be limited to members of the Judiciary Committee and the two senators from the nominee's home state. The nominee, Henry Saad, is from Michigan; Harry Reid is from Nevada. And Reid is not a member of the Judiciary Committee. Does the word "unethical" come to mind? None of this should surprise, though. Saad, a Michigan state Court of Appeals judge who's up for a seat on the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals, isn't being filibustered because of any political complaints — even the Democrats can't find a blemish on his judicial record or any suggestion of what they consider extremism. No, Saad is on hold because Michigan's two Democratic senators — Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow — want some payback because two of Bill Clinton's nominees for the Sixth Circuit were held up by Republicans. Worse still, one of those nominees reportedly is the wife of Sen. Levin's cousin. The senators also are angry because Saad mistakenly sent to Stabenow's office an angry e-mail complaining of his treatment by the Senate.

I honestly believe that this WILL be the chatter on the Sunday talk shows. Reid just LOOKS stupid enough to have said what he said in err. He really did it on purpose to plant the seed that there is something shady in that good man's file and nobody can legally refute it. He knew it would make news. IMHO, Reid isn't stupid. He's evil.

Often overlooked FACT...
The democrats have a protector, a secret weapon from prosecution..

REPUBLICANS... the very ones that should be outraged by democrat party malfeance, protect them.. HOW?.. by not prosecuting them or prosecuting them for misdemeanors when felony's have been committed.. Glaring evidence: Sandy Burglar, Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Chinagate, in your face treason, Mexican insurgency, obvious massive vote fraud, ad infinitum..

REPUBICANS are the democrats legal counsel once removed..
Obviously to protect the two party faux competition..
Because the ONLY competition TO WIN is from democrats,
Republicans NEVER compete TO WIN.. they take DIVES..
Often and in your face.. whether in power or out of power..

RepublicBots are the problem democrats are merely a symptom..

Reid reminds me of a small town funeral director.

LOL..., but remember that "little Devin wants to be just like him when he grows up".

George Will had this to say about Sen Reid last week:

"Democrats are slowly coming to the realization that Sen. Harry Reid is simply not up to the job."

Who do they have that is?

Actually, Joe Lieberman would do a much better job than Reid. Lieberman, despite his run on the Gore ticket in 2000 and some of his political positions on issues, is much more respected on both sides of the aisle.

I got to fly Lieberman once, and he was a thoroughly congenial and decent man.

That is exactly what disqualifies him as leader in that party.

He is certainly what the dems need. Someone who can credibly fill the role of the loyal opposition, not that I want them to realize it.

Has everyone noticed the Cliche talking point now used by ALL democrat party reps and senators in the media? Their first sentence ALWAYS includes a reference to some rino, or say republicans are against "X" (ending the filibuster or some bush policy). IOW the democrats know nobody cares about what democrats have to say so they try and BUY credibility by saying they agree with somebody with an R after their name.

IN addition the house should be very upset with Reid's statement accusing the Bush administration of trying to turn the senate into the raucous house of representatives.

Newsflash to democrats: the country club is dead, move on.

Reid IS up to the job the democrats have always done.

They USE the country club mentality to rake republicans over the coals.

Compare to a similar situation, it used to be that profesional courtesy could be extended to fellow lawyers for matters not related to cases or trial. (vacations, schedule conflicts, civil talk) With the advent of 1 seat for every applicant law schooling, professional courtesy went pretty much out the door. Many state bars tried to bring it back via professional courtesy education programs but soon found that while some got the message, there were lawyers who USED the concept of professional courtesy to their advantage. IOW they would demand extensions and reschedules to fit their personal needs but would NEVER extend it to others. (a screw them before they screw you)

Reid is just that kind of a democrat. Invoke tradition, comity and courtesy and after you have recieved it, screw the republicans because they showed weakness.

Republicans have to lean to play for keeps. McCain is a perfect example of a country club weakling.

I voted for Rocky in 02, and I'll be voting for Stabmenow's opponent in 2006.

The Dems are self-destructing.

Don't you wish. If they are it's taking an awful long time. Together with the RINO's in our party they have been keeping the Senate tied in knots since the Republicans took it back in 2002.

No, a party that's self destructing is ineffective and has no power. What I see is a coalition of hard-nosed Democrats and spineless RINO's tying up the senate. Now if the RINO's would quit being RINO's, the party of whiners and RATs would indeed be pushed aside as irrelevant. Until that happens though, and with the support of some Republican members, they are enabled to continue with their search and destroy mission on the President's policies and nominations.

We should be grateful The New York Post editorialized on this latest Reid blunder, a real disgrace, a full blown embarrrassment, or should be, for the Democrats. He's a lousy leader for the Democrats...I bet even they agree.

Will it even be discussed on the Sunday talk shows? I doubt it....so double thanks for posting this.
