SACRAMENTO -- After five months of failing to sway Democrats to his "year of reform," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has directed his political staff to prepare for a special-election campaign that would denigrate the California Legislature and its union benefactors.
Escalating the governor's fight, chief political consultant Mike Murphy said Monday that Schwarzenegger may endorse an initiative that could hobble the money-raising machine of public employee unions. Murphy said the governor has asked him to conduct polling and voter focus groups on a so-called paycheck protection initiative.
"Arnold has not touched the Legislature with a feather yet compared to what the real campaign will be," said Murphy, one of the governor's closest advisers. "It's a referendum on the governor versus the Legislature, and he will win."

If he pulls this off, I'll be expecting to see some nice crow receipes from all those doubters who told us not to vote him in.
Still loving my vote and all the petitions I got signed to dump Red Davis.
Pin the thermonuclear device on the jackass bump!
Lets recap:
Pension Reform: Abandoned
Merit Pay: Abandoned
Spending Cap: Abandoned, selects weak alternative with no teeth
Redistricting: Are California judges any better than legislators?
Tenure Pay: Good idea, but hardly merits special election
crow ain;t toobad if prepared properly.
doubting is OK in my book regardless..
his appointments of large numbers of GReens to his administration and having RFK Jr as his environemntal advisor leave a lot to be desired, imo.
and his expressed love of social programs doesn't exactly make him a much endeared political entity either,, but some folks like kool-aid. to each their own. ;-)
But I did just find this little nugget that's bound to drive the donkeys totally bonkers!
LOL! They're going to have to get out the smellin' salts for Reid, Dean, Pelosi, Kennedy, Biden, Leahy, Schumer....Survey: DeLay's Approval Rating Increases In District
HOUSTON -- House Majority Leader Tom DeLay gained support from his district on his job performance over the past several weeks, according to an exclusive Local 2 poll released Monday.
I think maybe you have a couple extra zeros in there.
The teachers' union has spent $2.5 million.
If Arnold goes forward, the "hope" to raise $50 million to counter Arnold's announced $50 million goal.
HA! I love that title. They stole a page out of the Dems playbook. Go Gov!
Man, that DeLay thing was supposed to be an easy set-up shot. Doesn't seem to have worked out too well for them. Maybe it's this demonstration of Demmy incompetence that has emboldened the Republicans. When they saw how the Demmies scurried like cockroaches when it turns out as many or more dems as reps are guilty of this behavior they ran away and said things like "Oh, let's not dwell on that," like they're being so bipartisan.
Then again, maybe that old fool Reid's calling Bush a loser was the final straw. That really was a ridiculous thing to say.
You're probably right. I remember the figure as being 200 million. I thought it was a pretty sizeable number.
When the teacher union goons were protesting in front of the courthouse last week I wondered how many teachers are Republicans. Are there any stats on that?
I searched google and couldn't find anything. In fact, half the search results took me to a Freeper's tagline (see below). LOL. Maybe brytlea knows of some statistics.
"brytlea (Yes, there are Republican teachers...) "
After how many times he's gone soft, I just have to say "wait and see!" I'm most interested in the Paycheck Protection and Ray Haynes CA border patrol measures!
I saw Arnold announcing enough signatures on some of the other measures he likes about a week ago. So, we'll see! I hope he's serious and committed to at least this as it is "something!"
I just wish he'd waited and put the Sierra-Nevada CONservancy on the ballot to at least give us a fighting chance, but he's not that considerate when granting favors to Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.!!!
I like the ringing tones of THIS!!!

I like those initiatives, too. I like parental notification also. I hate the borrowing buried in his "spending reform" bill, though, and I'm still not convinced having judges draw districts is an improvement.

What do you mean? He was very considerate--to RFK, jr!!!
Ok, I'll be Bad Cop this round.. lol.
something troubles me about his inability to read the writing on the wall on this issue.
He needs polling and focus groups? Where did we see that crap for governance before?
Simplicity! Excellent comment.
Yeah... but you notice they have to poll to see which way the wind is blowin' first! I wish they had some backbone.
It is as if many of the Republican moderates spines have been removed and they are nothing but a mass of quivering indifference governed by PCism.
By the time election day arrived, the unions called on all their liberal group-think socialist groups, including all the Non-profits with their contributors lists and narrowly sunk the measure.
It was the biggest single reason my re-election bid failed here locally, by the way, so I remember the details pretty well. Another reason I hope this measure is supported and wins as a payback that's sorely needed. The local public EE's Union went wild and took me out with one of their past secretaries!!!
This measure is aimed at ONLY public EE Unions, and NOT at Private Sector Unions!!! That's Ok by me!!!
agreed.
