Put an Eye Out (CBS Axes Bunch of Shows)

Put an Eye Out CBS cancels ''Joan of Arcadia,'' ''Judging Amy'' -- The low-rated former hits get the ax, as does the Wednesday edition of ''60 Minutes'' by Mickey O'Connor

Oh, God. It's official. At the unveiling of CBS' fall 2005 lineup Wednesday, the network announced that it has axed Joan of Arcadia, the underdog-that-couldn't, despite last year's Emmy nomination for lead Amber Tamblyn and much critical love. A second-season ratings slump made continuing it not feasible, said CBS chairman Les Moonves, calling it one of his biggest disappointments.

In other cancellation news, a desire to attract a younger demographic has spelled the end for two graying CBS shows: The awards magnet Judging Amy has heard its final sentence, and the beleagured Wednesday edition of news warhorse 60 Minutes, which suffered after a story that questioned President Bush's military service proved to be false, will stop production as well.

So what will replace these dearly departed shows? Among the new series that the chatty Moonves held forth on: a comedy about a family of doctors; a drama about FBI profilers; and, er, Jennifer Love Hewitt seeing dead people. ''I think talking to ghosts may skew younger than talking to God,'' Moonves said. From his mouth to... oh, never mind.

Well actually Motown, because of the big university there, probably has less inbreds than the rest of the state. Otherwise, I agree with you(no,it's not that far from a joke). I used to live in that hellhole called Clarksburg, a little south of Motown-it was the worst 2 years of my life. Seemed EVERY school, road, and bridge was named after their native Klan Klown.

About the only decent thing about the state is the fact that it has the most veterans, per capita, than any other.

I am so proud to reveal that I have never, ever watched even one single second of "Judging Amy". The words Tyne Daly were all I needed to hear when it hit the airwaves to keep me away as if it were plague.

PAX is going out of the programming business--and NBC is suing them over it. Google PAX and NBC--some of the court filings and threatening letters will likely turn up. Hallmark, though, might take it.

Judging Amy. I think it is the most irritatingly PC program on TV.

I just thought it was a chick show

I always taped the show and watched it over the weekend.

I caught the whole show a few times waiting on She Who Must Be Obeyed to get ready to go out. I found the dialog to be well written, and the G_d character(s) to have some simple yet profound insight on tough situations. All in all the message was pretty good, although I detected a bit of PC sympathy in there at times.

Unless, of course, he transfers to San Francisco General Hospital

Egad...don't even think it. Some CBS exec would surely put "Ben Gaysey" on the air if it were pitched to him.

Joan's second season was indeed crap... First season was excellent... second season, complete waste. Not suprising that Season 1 was a hit, and Season 2 ratings went into crapper.

"CSI:Peoria - Meter maids in action. (This time it's personal!)"

Cool. We'll get to see extreme close-ups of the crime: a nickel falling through the quarter slot of a parking meter......with really loud, exagerated sounds.
