Under the agreement, Democrats would pledge not to filibuster any of Bush’s future appeals court or Supreme Court nominees except in “extraordinary circumstances.”

By Democrat definition any Bush Supreme Court nominee will be an "extraordinary circumstance."

any pro life or strict constructionist nominees for the upcoming two vacancies on the supreme court, of course.

frist is a limp wristed moron.
we knew this shit was over with, the day after the new 'majority' was sworn in and we didn't IMMEDIATELY go nuclear.

they have just been letting us down 'easy.'

I do believe we have been betrayed by those we elected to

represent us. We have been handed over to the enemy for the

sake of "senate" tradition. I hereby pledge to withhold

monies from ANY republican group however far removed from

this act of treachery. I certainly hope that we will not be

further insulted by some self serving pile of excrement

posing as an elected representative whining that we simply

don't understand the intricacies of the "revered senatorial

body".
Cowards have no place in the role of leadership and we are

unfortunate indeed to be led by just such a miserable lot.

Ok, what happens when Rehnquist retires along with Oconnor? What excuses will we use then? People, we have been sold a bill of goods. The repubs sold us right up the river. Dingy Harry is laughing all the way to Vegas. Any one who voted GOP and isnt furious about this needs to check their pulse..

Huh? What kind of tortured reasoning is that?

"Ok, we'll give 'em the judges. Just wait till later."

"OK, we'll give 'em the Supreme Court justices. Just wait till later."

Doesn't make sense. We traded an empty phrase ('extraordinary circumstances') for actual judicial positions. I think, so far, that's pretty smart.

These six Democrats can't deliver their caucus, but they can vote for cloture tomorrow. The only way to avoid a vote terminating filibusters is for enough Democrats to vote for cloture concerning EVERY judicial nominee.

Frist can't force a vote terminating filibusters unless there is (a) a filibuster and (b) a vote against cloture. There has to be both of those first. If every attempted filibuster is terminated by a vote for cloture, Frist can't get a vote terminating filibusters.

So these six Democratic Senators have the power to keep the GOP from permanently dumping filibusters, by joining themselves in the prerequisite vote for cloture.

Are the Dems gonna use the filibuster on a judge they formerly approved?

My Party's Stand on the Judiciary:

http://www.constitutionparty.com/party_platform.php#The%20Judiciary

The Judiciary

The United States Constitution does not provide for lifetime appointment of federal judges, but only for a term of office during good behavior. We support Congressional enforcement of the Constitutional rule of good behavior and to restrain judicial activism by properly removing offending judges through the process of impeachment provided for in Article I, § 2 and 3 of the Constitution. Furthermore, Congress must exert the power it possesses to prohibit all federal courts from hearing cases which Congress deems to be outside federal jurisdiction pursuant to Article III, § 2 of the Constitution.

We particularly support all the legislation which would remove from Federal appellate review jurisdiction matters involving acknowledgement of God as the sovereign source of law, liberty, or government.

We commend Former Chief Justice Roy Moore of the Alabama Supreme Court for his defense of the display of the Ten Commandments, and condemn those who persecuted him and removed him from office for his morally and legally just stand.

We deny the validity of judicial rulings that use foreign court rulings to overturn U.S. precedent.

The Republicans need to now vote against Cloture tomorrow so that a ruling can still be asked for from the chair...this will sink Mcpain and his precious compromise...
I say F'em all if they can't or won't go through with it.

"Republicans did not cave. A handful of RINOS apparently did."

True. McCain scrw'd the Republicans AGAIN!

I'm a new AZ resident and I'll never vote for that RINO. And now horror of horrors I'll have to vote 'rat just to vote against him.

Being the optimist that I am, I think Frist had sufficient votes and the deal was a face saver for the RATS. If the RATS backtrack on their word, Frist will have more votes the next time. My analysis: The Republicans won, but the RATS received a face saver. Time will tell whether the Republicans got snookered.

Nope. For 20 years prior to the Civil War the South traded empty phrases/promises for actual territory. Look where it got them.

Earlier, officials from both parties, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the agreement would clear the way for yes or no votes on some of Bush’s nominees but make no guarantee.
