I'm not sure if I understand. What happens when they go on record?

I don't think the numbers would work.

Republicans have 55 in Senate and need at least 50 of those to vote out the filibuster (with VP Cheney's deciding vote), so I can not see the 6 RINOs voting to end the filibuster if it comes up for a vote tomorrow.

This despicable sale out by the Republicans leaves me disgusted with anyone who supports it.We should have shoved this issue down the demorat's throat, just as the will do to us.

My support of the Republican Party depends upon the appointment of judges, more than any other issue.

Republican will not get another dime out of me until they show backbone and see to the appointment of the President's judicial nominees!

I like it. The RINO betrayl may still win in the end, but it will force McLoser to go on the record against Brown and Owen. Maybe that would be too much for the the Dem wannabes to stomach.

Ever hear of the Tariff of Abominations? These kind of cute tricks don't work.

We will get our judges and I'm betting that within about two weeks the Dems shut up entirely about the judges because they are getting creamed.

Earlier I posted a notice which reflected my outrage - it was withdrawn by, ostensibly cooler heads - folks, the answer is tough but simple - identify the political whores that did this (McClain, Warner and include the Democrat political whores, also) and institute impeachment proceedings - will it work? who knows...but it will require of those po;itical whores to expend substantial sums of money to defend their outrageous activities...and it will weaken them for re-election...can they be replaced by an opposing party? Yes, but they are the opposing party. To hell with them. Always extract from your enemy a price that is at least 2 or 3 times his cost...you may not slay him directly but we will send a profound message to other political whores in the Senate...

To all, anyone have the email address for Lindsey Graham? I urge all SC Freepers to email him. Remind him of the statesman we have in SC Governor Sanford who does what is right even if it might be unpopular. Urge Senator Wimpy Graham to display statesmanship and try to measure up to the stature of Mark Sanford. If Graham insists on being a rino (i can't even capitalize that word anymore), then maybe we can draft Sanford to run against him. Of course that may wreck my hopes of Sanford in the presidential race in 08.

GET REAL PEOPLE, WE LOST

Barring Frist rejecting the deal, its over. It's done with. Contrary to rumors the GOP gets 3 that's right THREE judges out of TEN. AND the democrats retain the right of filibuster.

WHAT A FRIGGIN JOKE. I'm dropping GOP membership, I won't defend these assholes anymore.

OK, now I really have a problem. The RNC has lost what little money I send them ( Ohhh... that's going to hurt !! LOL). All it would do is elect another RINO. Yet, I don't see a TRUE conservative that's electable, and I'm damn sure a Republician/Conservative split will result in another Klintoon election victory. DAMM !!!! Why won't these guys grow some ba11s !!!!

Here is my solution to this problem. If I am the President, I send the VP to the Senate and hold a meeting with McCain, Collins, Chafee, Graham, et. al. At that meeting the V.P. informs them that he would like them to immediately either fall in line or leave the party. I then tell those who refuse that the President is making it his JOB to ensure that they are out of the party. He will veto any legislation that is favorable to their state, he will actively and aggresively campaign against them, and he will do so with the able assistance of Carl Rove.

The solution is for the nominees thrown over board to immediately withdraw. Then President Bush should renominate them. The 14 have promise not to filibuster any Bush appeals court nominees for the rest of the term and thus would have to break the agreement to filibuster the then newly nominated appeals Court Judges.

If the rats cave and give Owens and Brown, or any number of judges an up and down vote, but reserve the filibuster, I don't see a problem unless Frist loses his option to use it at a later date. I don't believe he does, I think his objection stands until the next session of Congress.

The real danger is if 6 repubs decided at a later date to vote with the rats instead of their party. But that amounts to political suicide for them.

I don't see any way the rats win this, even if the filibuster is not ruled out at this time. Frankly though, I'd feel better if it was, because I don't want to take any chances, especially on a Supreme Court appointment.

The leadership never signed on to this. But from their point of view it is not bad. Here's why:

The weren't going to filibuster owen or pryer or brown . They were going to vote on the cloture motion so the nuclear test wouldn't have been possible. In the meantime, their vote means there is no longer anideological litmus test.If these three are not extremists, judges who hold the same views cannot meet the "extraordinary circumstances" test AND all the judges will have up or down votes. The Reps still have the constitutional option if they need it for scotus.

"Losing them as the faces of the filibuster is a complete sellout by the RINOS so that the Rats get their way and shut down the other appointees."

I think you're overreacting. Pricilla Owen and Janice Rogers Brown were the two judges the 'Rats were the most opposed to. In addition to them, about five other filibustered judges that the 'Rats have agreed to allow votes on. Do you really think they enjoyed making these conessions?

Bill Frist deserves credit for taking the line he did. Filibustering nominees had become almost routine for the 'Rats, and Frist forced them to partially back down. Knowing that Frist is willing to use the nuclear option casts a pall over the 'Rats.

The compromise isn't great, but it's still an improvement.

Wouldn't work, because at least some of the 7 would have to vote for the Nuke option, and they wouldn't under those circumstances. Heck, I wouldn't either. That's a bit too petty and rediculous.
