On this Day in History 1935 In less than one hour, athlete Jesse Owens equaled and broke 6 world records including the records for the 100 yard dash, the long jump, the 220 yard dash, and the 220 yard low hurdles. Owens went on to win 4 gold medals in the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin.
