Transgenders Included in New Hate Crimes Bill
Crosswalk ^ | May 24, 2005 | Susan Jones

A "hate crimes" bill that specifically covers crimes based on "gender identity" and sexual orientation will be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday, a homosexual advocacy group said.

"Transgender and gay Americans deserve the same clear protections against hate crimes as other Americans," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese.

"We're proud that for the first time legislation will be introduced that explicitly covers the entire gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community and the community will have an unambiguous shot at equal protection under hate crimes law."

The Human Rights Campaign says it has worked "side-by-side" with the bill's lead sponsors, including Reps. Barney Frank(D-Mass.), Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), John Conyers Jr.(D-Mich.), Christopher Shays (R-Conn.), Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.) in writing the bill.

Solmonese says "public support is there" for including transgender people in hate crime laws.

The introduction of the bill also heals a rift in the GLBT community.

Last August, transgender advocacy groups were protesting the Human Rights Campaign's "dubious efforts" to include them in federal legislation.

At the time, transgenders accused the homosexual community of throwing them overboard, in an effort to make federal legislation more palatable to lawmakers.

They have a lot of nerve, talking about unambiguous.

There are no "hate crimes". Either someone has been assaulted and had their civil rights violated or they have not.

Absolutely. An unprovoked attack on any human... gay, straight, black, white, polka-dotted... should be abhored by every American.

"Hate crimes" give extra-special status to specific groups. I don't know if a challenge to these laws has ever worked its way through the courts, but Hate Crime legislation would appear to be a violation of the Equal Protection Clause.

I believe this type of legislation isn't about protecting their civil rights. It's about advancing acceptance and approval of nonconventional lifestyles.

Fat people are not protected by these laws. Neither are nerds, geeks, and "brains". If you have a poor fashion sense, the kids are free to beat up and harass you at school. There is no "support group".

This is about shielding some groups, not about protecting human dignity.

Well the constitution says that you cannot discriminate on the basis of race, creed, or color. We are well on our way to ammending that interpretation to at least "suggest" sexual fetish as also being included. Don't know if we will see a constitutional ammendment or just a landmark Supreme Court ruling to "make it so".

A Constitutional ammendment regarding traditional binary male-female marriage would go a long way to stopping this nonsense.

Now it could be claimed that "bait and switch" is in and of itself an attempt at sexual molestation/violation. Can their be "consent" to sex without full disclosure?

Advancing this line of thought: There are a surprising number of sex-changed people who are in the adult entertainment industry. OK, I'll say it. Strippers.

We won't get into the details of how I know this.

I've always wondered if that couldn't be considered false advertising, or unethical, or something like that.

Without due notice, the customer isn't getting what he bargained for.

How about just enforcing the laws we already have against assault, rape, etc. (not to mention illegal immigration)? I hate the idea of a special "hate crime" category for the noisy deviance crusaders. Just another divisive waste of energy.

Is "sodomite" a hateful word? What about "queer" (or is that like the n-word, where the group is free to use it heavily, but no one else)?

Is it prohibited to cite biblical verse against it? Canada thinks so.

The only instance I am aware of where someone "crossed the line" and tried to become a sex symbol was one of the Bond girls (not a speaking part, just some of the background "eye candy").

Ask the legislators when they will consider including the word "breeder" among hatespeech.

You should read the actual story about the "Boys Don't Cry" person. Check kiter, car thief, liar, etc. She wasn't killed by men because she was impersonating a man. It was a young girl and her mother she was getting over on. She was killed because of the constant turmoil she brought to the town in which she was killed.
Like Matthew Sheppard, her story was cleaned up/distorted to make a fiction about widespread violence against gays.

I don't understand the transgendered thing at all. As a gay friend of mine once told me; "I don't have anything in common with these people....but there's no other place to put them except with us" About 75% of trannies (men to women) still look like guys in a distorted way.

Most are people who have some serious mental issues although a few suffer from known genetic defects that cause them to appear male while genetically being female or vice versa.

Some customers don't care.

Others do. There is now a niche among porn sites and magazines to brag about having "natural" women (some of whom may have smaller cup sizes).

Why don't we just include every single group on earth, so this bill amounts to nothing more than harsher penalties for crimes?

Yes! You now can wear your dress and High Heels!

You are showing your age! Nowadays, most women, and thus those who imitate/copy them, dont wear dresses or skirts any more.

LOL! Point conceded.

For the record, I'm a "real deal" kind of guy in all respects... my body and my preferences.

What they really need, is a CCW and for everyone of them to carry if they are old enough.
