Why people are getting upset with illegal immigrants

Jill Bureau, MerrimackPublished: Thursday, May. 26, 2005

I have been reading all the letters about illegal immigration and feel the need to give my opinion as a legal immigrant.

People do not seem to be getting the point of what the New Ipswich and Hudson police chiefs are trying to do. They are not being racist or penalizing people with an accent, different color or people trying to work.

They are trying to uphold the law because the government doesn’t seem to be able or willing to do so.

My husband and I are both immigrants with accents, we came here for a better life and opportunity. We were not “born into one of the richest countries in the world.”

What we didn’t do is come illegally. People are upset by those that come here illegally.

We did our paper work, we had to have a job to come to and when we got here we started paying Social Security, taxes and everything else a law-abiding citizen pays.

My husband served eight years in the U.S. Air Force and two in the reserves.

There is nothing wrong with immigrants; this country was founded and thrived on such. What has everybody upset is why should people just step across the border from any country via plane, boat or walking and just get benefits straight away?

Our son was born here with disabilities and he is on a waiting list for services, I know for a fact that children of illegals are getting services before him. Before I get told that I don’t like children, that is not the point, legal immigrants should come first.

My husband took two jobs and went to school to pay our medical bills for our son, and to get ahead. One person comes here, has a baby, the baby is legal so now the whole family is, and all get benefits of some sort.

The United States should do what a judge in Ireland did. He said the baby could stay or go home with the parents, but the parents were being deported, they were illegal.

I think America has proved to the world it has a big heart, but when its legal citizens are going without, something has to change. The laws need to be tightened, not slackened.

It doesn't take a Doctorate degree in sociology to understand what the illegal alien invasion will eventually do to America.

Go to the health deparment of any large city in the Southwest or California, and take a look at the people lining up for free health care. It's true, you can't tell an illegal immigrant just by looking, but on the other hand, you'd have to be an Oprah not to be able to recognize the probabilities in those crowds.

What to do with an ocean of anchor babies (and their illegal alien homesteading parents) . . .

The United States must follow the examples of other nations around the world who have encountered the onslaught of illegal alien invasions from other countries. America is no different from any other country - it DOES NOT have UNLIMITED resources for the people and they are now taking away from what rightfully belongs to American citizens.

Ask your congress zombies why America should be any different in how they handle illegal immigration and what they are going to do about it.

I love immigrants. I strongly support immigrants. Immigrants are all those from another country who are here legally. By definition anyone here illegally is not an immigrant. Someone here illegally is a criminal and we have to deal with them as such.

We owe illegals nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Point 1 - If the law isn't just, then change it.

Point 2 - If someone disrespects 1 law, why would that person respect the others? Specifically why is identity theft good because "an undocumented worker is paying taxes"? What about those that can't file their taxes correctly or draw from their own retirement savings properly because someone else decided to jam them up (oh, but it's an undocumented worker). This doesn't even cover the felonies perpetrated by undocumenteds. I listened to a mother on the radio tell a horrible tale about an illegal alien who was caught and about to be convicted for molesting her 6 year old son. The judge decided not to convict so that the illegal would not be turned over to INS and then (gasp) deported. Of course the judge did not give a hoot about the child!

Point 3- To what extent do any aliens warrant participation in entitlement programs designed to assist US citizens?

Point 4 - If the author really cares about humanity, why are you covering for corrupt regimes that rely on illegal immigration to the US to stay in power?

What a "whinning" article. Whinning from legals and illegals. We were not "born into one of the richest countries in the world".

You tell me. Is our country's land mass one of the richest in the world. We no longer have oil. The gold mines are gone. So, what are these people coming for?

The country didn't make this the richest country in the world. The people of this country made this into the richest country of the world.

From the article, I gather that people are coming for welfare, legal and illegal alike. So, how long will we remain on of the richest countries in the world?

The poster makes very good points. They are here legally. Who can have a problem with that? They had a job before they came. They are paying their way. They, like most sensible Americans, have a problem with those who come here illegally. Don't give the poster crap.

Amen. If they want to come to this country like my great-grand-parents did, and probably yours, too - that is wonderful. America is here because of immigration.

Illegals are criminals, truly, and I completely agree.

As a human being, if they need food or water to take their rear-ends back from which they came - fine. But other than that - do it the legal way - or do not do it at all. JK

Nobody has a problem with them coning here legally.

It is the attitude of the legals and illegals that whine and say. "We were not born into the richest country in the world." (Poor me.) This sentence is used to make Americans born here feel guilty. It doesn't work with me.

My question is, why didn't they make their country one of the richest in the world? Especially in this day and age of TV and the internet.

I have this argument quite frequently down on the border. I am then reminded that people would get killed. I then remind them of American history and get duh for an answer.

"Go to the health dept of any large city in the SW or California and look at the people lining up for free health care...."Oh don't worry about that,GW says the federal gov is going to cover the bill(s) for illegals that don't pay/sarcasm intended.

You are right, of course. But I don't blame people for seeking the avenue of "least resistance." Perhaps we should consider changing immigration policy to keep the producer in their home countries and force them to change their governments. I don't think I'd have a problem with that. On the other hand, if we can cherry pick the best people from other countries to come here and live, I am ok with that too. Too bad we can't export the lazy ones that already live here. On the welfard side, as long as some people find welfare life reasonably tolerable, the welfare rolls will grow. We need to require some level of work, and yes, shame, for reliance upon others by those who are able-bodied yet willing to take from the producers here.

The map above has 18 states blacked out. The population of these states is equal to the 45,000,000+ reported "legal" surgical abortions since 1973. Perhaps this visual perspective helps one to grasp the number of people that are gone, dead-robbed of their God given, constitutional rights to life and liberty. How does the “most religious” nation on the planet allow such unspeakable horror?

To remove all the good cherries of a country would leave that country with what?

Unfortunately, some people just don't really seem to understand the difference between legal and illegal. Just a big blur.

No, but some of those that do have that degree are way too thick headed to see it......
