"Zarqawi is an instrument of a far more powerful terrorist engine: the Iranian regime, allied with other terror masters. Zarqawi himself is only involved in a fraction of the actions for which he gets credit; the most important figure is actually our old enemy, Imad Mughniya, the operational commander of Hezbollah. And if you're in a betting mood, I'll give you even money that Hezbollah is the operational glue that binds together the various terrorist factions on the ground in Iraq. "

Under Turabi's leadership, Sudan offered residency to any Arab or Muslim. This policy allowed bin Laden to take up residence in Khartoum, along with Imad Mughniyah, the man believed to be responsible for the 1983 suicide bombing in Beirut that killed 241 U.S. Marines, and Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, the Venezuelan drug lord known as "Carlos the Jackal," who converted to Islam and pledged allegiance to bin Laden.

America was asleep at the switch in regards to countering the threat from Islamic terrorists.

You are likely correct. This Imad Mughniya sounds like one bad hombre. In fact, we may come to find that Zarqawi is something of a two-bit terrorist compared to Mughniya.

Iran and Syria are giving supplies and some operational support to al-Qaeada in Iraq, but the main terrorist is still al-Zarqawi...if he is still alive. Intelligence is well aware of Mughniya, and are just waiting for him to make a mis-step.

"You are likely correct."

Actually, that was Ledeen saying that.

Good photo of Mugniyah at below URL
He is Shi'ite:

Middle East experts and intelligence officials in several countries say Mugniyah, a Lebanese Shiite Muslim, runs the international terrorist apparatus of Lebanese Hezbollah and that he works as a subcontractor for Iranian intelligence, often using Iran as a safe haven.

I guess, this was the main point of Ledeen's that interested me. "...Hezbollah is the operational glue that binds together the various terrorist factions on the ground in Iraq. "

If we don't get rid of the Iranian regime, which funds hezbollah, we'll never get rid of hezbollah.
