Democrats battle Bolton for U.N. post
Reuters ^ | 26 May 05 | Vicki Allen

Posted on 05/26/2005 4:07:17 PM PDT by LSUfan

Democrats made a last-ditch effort on Thursday to stall the nomination of John Bolton as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations while Republicans pressed ahead for a Senate vote on President Bush's contentious nominee.

Just one Republican -- Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio -- openly opposes Bolton.

Anyone have any inside scoop on why this clown Voinovich has it out for Bolton?

Someone told me that he is of Serbian ancestry and hates Bolton for something involving Balkans policy.

Anyone know if that is true or any other reason why he is trying to shoot down this nomination?

I suspect it's just a matter of Voinovich being a bit mentally unbalanced.

...and a wuss.

He's certainly of Balkan ancestry, with that name, but it need not be Serbian.

Don't know about that.

I do know that Frist loses again, his "deal" with Reid to close debate on Bolton was no deal at all.

Reid, McCain wins again, Frist & conservatives lose again.

If Bush had a pair he would recess appoint Bolton. He doesn't & won't.

Bolton has Serbian father and Slovenian mother, according to Wikipedia.

But I don't think McCain was opposed to Bolton, was he?

Voinovich is bashing Bolton because he has bought into the BS charges made by the Dems about how he can be pretty hard to get along with.

Voinovitch is the same guy who as Govermor of Ohio violated the no fly order at an airport where the president of the US was present and while airborne in his State plane asked the controllers "What are ya gonna do...shoot me down"

He was fined $20,000 for that and he thinks Boltan is a bad ass.

McVain's Saving The Senate filibuster deal was supposed to return the body to a workable relationship.

Didn't last long, did it? McCain couldn't deliver his seven moderate Dims on this vote. More likely he did not try.

I tell ya, we have two of the most principled, steadfast, outstanding statesmen serving in Congress who were both formerly mayors of my hometown, the lovely Cleveland, Ohio.

Dennis Kucinich and George Voinovich are two wonderful dudes! I mean they are both good, clean and wholesome. They're both standup guys, I tell ya!

Kucinich and Voinovich. Two of a kind, and both sons of a bitch. Yea, Cleveland! Don't we make 'em or what?

If you can't see that this is dripping sarcasm, I'm gonna slap you. Seriesly.

There has GOT to be more to this deal than meets the eye. Voinovich would not grandstand like this, cry and cross swords with the president and the Senate leadership unless there was something specific and personal here.

And it ain't because Bolton doesn't play well with the other kids.

Voinovich is putting some other interest in front of everything. If it is his Serb heritage, then it is borderline treason.

I was too young to remember anything about Voinovich being mayor, but I do remember that my Pop called him "George Sumabitch."

Looks like my old man was right. Again.

Whatever his problem is, he needs to fix it and fix it fast. Wobbly knees can be fixed, but stupidity is forever.

That's great. But what about Voinovich?

I smell a rat here and I do not believe he just decided to side with the Dems on this out of the blue. The Center for Security Policy gave him an 88 on the National Security Scorecard, which isn't the highest score by far, but it isn't low at all.

Why would a guy like that side with the Dems on Bolton? There is something missing here!

I think Voinie is nothing more than another Lib posing as a Repub. I don't know much about his past other than he was Gov. of Ohio. He has picked what side he is aligned with, and with that I'll never believe a thing he says.

Kucinich and Voinovich.

They've both drifted left. George from center-right to self-centered and Dennis from ultra left to Disneyland.

Calling him goofy is an insult to Goofy.
