Memorial Day Essay (by Glenn Beck)
Glenn Beck's official website ^ | 27 May 05 | Glenn Beck

Posted on 05/27/2005 5:45:49 PM PDT by Chong

Glenn Beck, aka, "a sick freak" posted a Memorial Day Essay (audio) written especially for Vietnam veterans. He made my "tough" Vietnam veteran hubby cry.

Below is the text that I typed with hubby's help for those of you with slow connection. I type pretty fast, but couldn't keep up with Glenn's audio, so hubby would play some and pause while I catch up, etc. Of course the text doesn't convey the emotion, but at least, you can read it.

Please excuse any mistakes or typo's. OH, and Glenn? Please don't sue me? You said it was free for all veterans, especially Vietnam veterans, right?

Thank You! TO this day, I cannot bear to see the Vietnam War Memorial, nor even read about it, without tears flowing! I brings me to such an emotional state that is just so hard to bear. I'm a Mom and grandmother.I thank you for expressing your thoughts and feelings so well! We lost so VERY many--all Brave, all Americans and all loved by families who will always miss them and be Proud of them. They tried so hard, but some of the "Powers that Be" at the time just let them down! It doesn't take away from their bravery and courage one bit. THEY were all Americans--all Soldiers, Marines , Sailors, etc. but they gave all they had under the worst of circumstances. I shall always HONOR them and remember them! They gave ALL and then Some!!! We should always remember those who went, who served with Honor and those who did NOT come home! God Bless Them all!

You are welcome but no need to thank me for my very little part. I know what you mean about The War. Let soldiers fight the war like they were trained to do, without politics!!

No, it doesn't take away from their bravery and courage one bit. God Belss them all.

My dad's brother James died in WWII at the age of 22. As I read the piece I couldn't help but think of my dad and his family and how my uncle's death affected them for all their lives. There were circumstances in my uncle's death that I think placed an added heartache and confusion on my family - his death was, more than likely, a suicide.

My family never spoke of my uncle - I think it was such a deep pain that they never in some ways came to terms with what happened. I understand why they could not speak of his death - I just wish they could have spoken about his life, but I understand why they could not - I think it was just a pain too deep to share.

From a very young age, I often sensed a sadness in my grandmother that I could never understand. There were often times when she seemed to drift off into another time and place - a distant look would come into her eyes, and I would wonder where she had gone - I know now that at those times, she was with James.

My heart aches for all my dad's family as I know how deeply James' death affected all their lives. I wish I had known the truth about my uncle - I wish in some way I could have helped them with their pain. But they're all together now in God's care and I know all the pain is gone.

As his next of kin, I have all my uncle's possessions, and I cherish them with all my heart and soul. I never knew him, but I have researched his life and his death extensively over the last few years and I feel like I know him. He will always be a hero to me who not only bravely fought for the "championship of the world" as he said in his memories about WWII, but also fought his own personal demons. I know he is with God and his family, and I know he has found a peace in death that escaped him at the end of his life. Rest in peace, uncle James.

Once again, God bless all of you who have served - we owe you for everything we enjoy in this great country - from the bottom of my heart, I thank you for your service.

We were listening to Sean's show this afternoon on our way home from work and he had the "street man" thing going on. ............ I'm thankful for FR and sites like it!

I'm thankful for Free Republic for that reason also. It was a great thing for me to become involved on Free Republic when I did because so *few* people really know anything that's going on. It's truly refreshing to be able to check in here every day and converse with like-minded folks! That's just something I've never had enough of in my normal course of life.

Memorial weekend is so much more than backyard BBQ and sales

Gal, you said a mouthful there! I have always chafed at the BBQ's, picnics and days on the lake. It doesn't take too many IQ points to realize Mr. Webster has the definition of "Memorial" does it? :-)

I wasn't in the mood for Moron Trivia, so I switched channels on Glenn this morning. Thank you SO much, Chong, for transcribing and posting this. Now I know why visiting The Wall is so overwhelming each and every time I visit. God bless all those who stand on either side of it.
