Because the men of those cultures can't take on any other men from other cultures, so they have to abuse their women to feel good and macho about themselves.

You need not be a feminist to be simply aghast of the practices in primitive societies. Including the Muslim societies. What the MSM is not covering is the fact that such practices are practiced by muslims here in the US. Arranged marriages are frequent among Bangladeshi muslims and Albanians. You need not go half way around the world to find it. I personaly know of several cases where Albanian women had their marriages arramnged by their parents and they dared not object for fear of being killed.

It is not that they fear women, simply put the men in these circles have power and anyone with power, whether male or female is unlikely to give up such power willingly.

The answer lies in civilizing these tribals, through conversion to Christianity. It is a simple prescription, but has worked for 2000 years. Exisitence of such savage behavior is directly proportional to the absence of Christianity.

I might add that it probably occurs among other groups here in the US as well, includ8ing arabs. Though in those cases I have no personal knowledge. But I would not be surpirsed if upon investigation it was found to be frequent. Of course, this story does not even touch on the subject of "honor killings".

I hate toi inform you,but Ethiopia is primarily a Christina country and most Ethiopians belong to the Ethiopian Coptic Chruch. This has to do more with culture than religion.

I'd welcome society backing me up in the final say of a husband for any daughter of mine.

If other parents make unwise choices for their daughters, that's their look out.

Not reason enough for me and other fathers of good judgment to be penalized for their idiocy.

These were Christians. Ethiopia has been Christian for most of the Christian period. It's the traditionalism coupled with lack of education and lack of seeing other opportunities because of both that continue a lot of what goes on.

It's her getting married (when she reaches the age of majority). You as a father may have a legitimate opinion of her choice of spouse, but you get no say (final or otherwise) as to who she marries.

I've known of people married and divorced by the time they're 17.
