An ice cream truck driver is in jail charged with peddling more than snow cones and fudgecicles from his vehicle in Albuquerque’s South Valley.

The 21-year-old driver, Steven Gonzales was arrested Monday and charged with drug dealing after deputies say he was pulled over with $50 worth of marijuana in his truck.

“I’m really disappointed,” said Lonnie Nettles, who has lived in the area of Barcelona and Wilkinson SW for 50 years. “We used to have a good neighborhood. Any more, it’s kind of going down.”

“I’m really shocked,” said fellow neighborhood resident Argelia Barraza. “So I guess it will be the last time we’ll ever buy any ice cream.”

Deputies report that the bust is the second in two months of a driver for that ice cream truck company.

From what my husband tells me his neighborhood did!!! I don't think mine did, but then what did I know... I was a goody-goody and much more interested in chasing him down with my bike for a sno-cone! LOL

In Australia, the ice cream vans known as "Mr.Whippy" play the old tune "Greensleeves" on their loudspeaker when they drive around a neighbourhood.

This story gives another meaning to the tune.

Just another example of innocence being corrupted by greed and sinfulness.

Does somber music in a minor key get kids thinking about ice cream Down Under? Here in America it's peppy pieces like "The Entertainer" and "Turkey in the Straw."

Just seems to be a tradition that has stuck. Ever since i was a little boy that piece of music has been the signature tune of the Mr.Whippy van fleet. The music seems to be cross-generational as parentsoftoday and their kids seem to like it. Music is a very good memory retrieval agent.

When our minds are thinking about the dark problems of the present days it is fun to be reminded of the pure, innocent and free memories from childhood. There is still some light in the world.
