What Everybody's Missing About Deep Throat (He Would Have Buried Watergate)
Self | June 2, 2005 | JohnRobertson

Posted on 06/02/2005 8:21:22 PM PDT by John Robertson

While many MSM'ers (sorry, most) are lionizing this guy as "a hero," someone who "did what he had to do," something big is being missed.

Our side has pointed out that he authorized/engineered illegal breakins himself...

And that he turned on the Whitehouse because he didn't get the top FBI job. Now think about that....

Felt became a snitch because he didn't get something he wanted! He was an opportunist, plain and simple (and it runs in the family, apparently, as they shamelessly say they urged the old man to do it so they could all get some money). Yeah, a real hero.

But here's what I haven't seen....

If they had made him the head of the FBI, he WOULD NOT have turned on the Whitehouse.

In fact, as head of the FBI....

HE WOULD HAVE HELPED THEM BURY WATERGATE!

I don't think the FBI's job is to run to Congress with details of an ongoing investigation. The only way Felt could have saved Nixon from himself, was to tell Nixon he knew too much, and if he didn't tack on the dime, he would destroy him. In fact, that would be a rather good way for Felt to get the top job don't you think? Nixon tacks, jettisons the perps, and Felt is director, and everybody is happy.

He put the country's best interest first, in the stolen 1960 election and in Watergate as well.

Yes he did, and his resignation was out of respect for the office he held, We can't say the same for that degenerate Bill Clinton

By the way, what brought Nixon down was evidence gathered by the Post that the FBI was hamstrung in getting. Thus Felt had the Post do the FBI's work. That is my take as well. I don't give Nixon any slack on this, none. He was a felon. It was wrong to pardon him.

Well if I wanted to plant spooks in the media, I would naturally choose the Washington Post

I don't think the FBI's job is to run to Congress with details of an ongoing investigation.

What exactly do you think they're talking about up there when the director or his assistants go up there to brief the congressmen?

If he was ethically concerned, he could have spoken to ANY one of the hundreds of representatives involved in the ongoing investigations up there at any time.

Let's not pretend this guy was a good guy; he was running the 'dark side' of the FBI.

I'm surprised that you, a lawyer, are saying it's fine to break his oath and the laws.

I thought they were trying to steal evidence of Maureen Dean's involvement in prostitution.

"I thought they were trying to steal evidence of Maureen Dean's involvement in prostitution."

That's just one theory. Or maybe just one of many things they were looking for.

Actually, Nixon wasn't a felon, since he was never charged with anything criminal. He was guilty of a coverup, yes.

And does anyone really doubt that such an amoral opportunist wouldn't have proactively gotten involved in defending his position within the regime that was threatened? And taken action to protect himself within that regime?

Your time line may be off somewhat. I believe when Hoover died installing Pat Grey was close to immediate, and announced, surprising Felt and no doubt many others at the Bureau, who since Calvin Coolidge days didn't take kindly to the thought of outsiders calling the shots. It was a quick done deal, that brought the Bureau's long held tradition of approving their own to a sudden close. I have no doubt many felt betrayed.

It's quite incestuous, isn't it? The same names over and over.

And don't miss the Moorer-Zumwalt-Radford spy ring!

That would have been leaking too. Felt was not at the witness table as far as I know. What I would have done, myself, is gone to Nixon, say he seemed to be interfering with the investigation via his toady Gray, and if he didn't stop it, and come clean, I would resign, and go public. That would have been the best thing to do. Felt did second best, because he had no desire to save Nixon from himself, is my guess. He wanted him to drown.

That would have been leaking too.

Is is NOT leaking when you speak to the members of the committee to which YOUR agency is reponsible to, period.

So you would have blackmailed Nixon, huh?

Mo,

Do we really want to go down this "Sins of the Father" road?

Seriously, if your logic is followed, if Bernstein's Father was a commie, then he Must be one also, could the same logic be applied to Arnold? His Father was a member of the Nazi party.

Gray was the guy stalling the investigation on orders from Nixon. You remember that don't you?
