What Everybody's Missing About Deep Throat (He Would Have Buried Watergate)
Self | June 2, 2005 | JohnRobertson

Posted on 06/02/2005 8:21:22 PM PDT by John Robertson

While many MSM'ers (sorry, most) are lionizing this guy as "a hero," someone who "did what he had to do," something big is being missed.

Our side has pointed out that he authorized/engineered illegal breakins himself...

And that he turned on the Whitehouse because he didn't get the top FBI job. Now think about that....

Felt became a snitch because he didn't get something he wanted! He was an opportunist, plain and simple (and it runs in the family, apparently, as they shamelessly say they urged the old man to do it so they could all get some money). Yeah, a real hero.

But here's what I haven't seen....

If they had made him the head of the FBI, he WOULD NOT have turned on the Whitehouse.

In fact, as head of the FBI....

HE WOULD HAVE HELPED THEM BURY WATERGATE!

Said it above and believe it: Reagan would have risen to the top no matter what. If we get him and avoid Carter, then that's a helluva win.

Richard M. Nixon.

And he did.

And the jury REJECTED Nixon and Felt's defense.

Mol had some interesting info on Bernsteins father that sheds some light on the son's background.

Can you even believe the brass ones that took?

"Hey, Dick, you don't know it yet, but I have screwed you royally, but I am not ethical enough to NOT ask you to come and try to save my sorry butt."

Good question. Of course, RR ran against him in '68 (came out ahead of Rockefeller) and there was no love lost between the two Californians. But RR would have had a far better shot at the top spot in '76 (remember someone suggesting he serve as a co-prez with Ford????)--no Watergate raining on Republicans.

This whole thing makes me want to weep for Nixon and his family. Ok, it's late.......but this is starting to get to me.

Yeah, it's history.

But speculating on "What might have been" is an irresistible game to many folks, myself included. This was a fairly insignificant act (not letting him be head of FBI) that reverberated around the world, and especially in this country...and continues to reverberate.

Guess how much the Opportunists Felt family paid the Biographer for his rights to the memiors?

$5,000!!!!!, and now they are worth millions. The 88 year old biographer was on Hard Ball earlier talking about it

Yeah, yeah, I failed to cite that.

He took Nixon down...then prevailed upon him to help get his ass out of the dock.

And Nixon, who after all knew what loyalty was (loyalty to his loyalists cost him his presidency), came running.

Felt is an absolute amoral snake.

Don't believe it. Gratitude's one thing, acting against his boss quite another. The only way I can see it is if JE was blackmailed (not necessarily for dough).

Stay tuned for John Dean's column tomorrow; he's gone through and highlighted all the mistakes Felt made with the Washington Post, even after Bradlee has said he never steered them wrong.

They knew the big disclosure was in the pipeline, and so they got every aspect of their cash-in in place before it hit.

Felt's legacy: At least two generations that are every bit as amoral, self-serving, self-congratulatory and opportunistic as I.

"Felt is an absolute amoral snake."

And his family is going to make money off his treachery and traitorism (is that a word?) Makes me ill.

Now everything they say will be researced

Speaking of research .. I did some last night

I didn't know this about Carl Bernstein's father

Horowitz discloses how active communists such as Al Bernstein and others went on to enjoy lucrative careers. Indeed Carl Bernstein himself ended up at the Washington Post, poised to topple President Richard Nixon, when he confessed to editor Ben Bradley the involvement of his parents in the Communist Party. Bradley, of course, did not remove him
