What Everybody's Missing About Deep Throat (He Would Have Buried Watergate)
Self | June 2, 2005 | JohnRobertson

Posted on 06/02/2005 8:21:22 PM PDT by John Robertson

While many MSM'ers (sorry, most) are lionizing this guy as "a hero," someone who "did what he had to do," something big is being missed.

Our side has pointed out that he authorized/engineered illegal breakins himself...

And that he turned on the Whitehouse because he didn't get the top FBI job. Now think about that....

Felt became a snitch because he didn't get something he wanted! He was an opportunist, plain and simple (and it runs in the family, apparently, as they shamelessly say they urged the old man to do it so they could all get some money). Yeah, a real hero.

But here's what I haven't seen....

If they had made him the head of the FBI, he WOULD NOT have turned on the Whitehouse.

In fact, as head of the FBI....

HE WOULD HAVE HELPED THEM BURY WATERGATE!

I believe Mark Felt used Erlichman for his inside the White House information and passed what he heard to the 2 flunkies he hand picked to print the stories that would take down Nixon

This thread chalked up a lot of speculation, very fast.

But I don't think my original premise is "speculation," other than in the dictionary sense. Felt is at bottom an opportunist who will--and would--do anything to advance his own cause. Therefore, as head of the FBI, he would have at least dragged feet/done nothing on Watergate...at most proactively engaged in running the investigation off its tracks.

You are not asserting that Bernstein pursued the Watergate story because his parents were commmies do you? By the way, Woodward was and is a Republican.

"He was an opportunist, plain and simple"

And being an opportunist, Felt would have come out of the box long ago to capitalize on the story had HE BELIEVED that he was a hero that was intent only on saving the Republic. The fact that this has come out now and primarly from the coaxing of his family in order to profit is testimony that MF KNOWS his actions were criminal, cowardly, and as corrupt as the corruption he was exposing which did grave damage to the country.

Nixon WAS a hero! With what he was up against--an intransigent, liberal, commie press, he still managed to "triangulate" the stalled Paris Peace Talks--a mission that couldn't have been accomplished if he hadn't first opened channels with the Chinese, set "detente" with the Soviets. He had brains (intellectually & practically), guts, a sense of America's place in the world as well as its nobility, and what turned out to be a tragic sense of his purpose in office. He's still one of MY heroes.

If Woodward's a Republican I'm an openly gay Socialist Convention delegate from San Francisco.

I don't care what his voter registration is, this guy is about as Republican as Lincoln Chafee.

Wait, bad example.

Woodward is a leftie.

I tend to doubt it. That was against his core beliefs. He admired Hoover for resisting compromising the FBI. His life was the FBI and its code of honor (twisted as it was sometimes back then).

No disagreement. An opportunist chooses the best opportunity for himself in the moment. This best op for him was staying quiet, for 30 years. Now the best op is to come forward, cash in.

The interesting thing would be to find out how many MSM news directors were tickled in advance as to their interest in frothing up an American hero story.

That's laughable. Felt was, and is, a convicted criminal who was guilty of illegally bugging antiwar activists homes and offices

Well, I admire Woodward. I think he is a straight shooter, and fair and balanced, granted with establishment oriented instincts. I think he is basically a neocon as it were. But then, so am I.

Whose core beliefs? Who admired Hoover?

Felt?

This is ALL speculation, of course, implicitly. But I think an opportunist remakes his opportunity as he goes along, and I think Felt would have taken first-class care of Mark Felt.
