June 3, 2005 is the sixteenth anniversary of the brutal 1989 Tiananmen Square Massacre of peaceful pro-democracy protestors by the communist Chinese Government.

Many Americans remember the infamous photo of the unarmed Chinese student standing in front of a column of armored tanks, blocking their path. What most Americans did not see were the color photos of smashed and bloody bodies of protestors all over the ground, making the ground look somewhat like the top of a giant pizza.

The following are links to the encyclopedia entry for "Tiananmen Square", which is also provided below:

The following text is from encyclopedia.com:

Tiananmen Square

[Tiananmen Square is a] large public square in Beijing , China, on the southern edge of the Inner or Tatar City. The square, named for its Gate of Heavenly Peace (Tiananmen), contains the monument to the heroes of the revolution, the Great Hall of the People, the museum of history and revolution, and the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall. Mao Zedong proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic in the square on Oct. 1, 1949, an anniversary still observed there. A massive demonstration for democratic reform, begun there by Chinese students in Apr., 1989, was brutally repressed on June 3 and 4. It was initiated to demand the posthumous rehabilitation of former Communist Party Chairman Hu Yaobang . The government was tolerant until after his funeral; then Deng Xiaoping denounced the protests. The demonstrators were joined by workers, intellectuals, and civil servants, until over a million people filled the square. General Secretary Zhao Ziyang expressed sympathy, but lost out to Deng, who supported the use of military suppression. Martial law was declared on May 20. The protesters demanded that the leadership resign, but the government answered on the nights of June 3 and 4 with troops and tanks, killing thousands to quell a “counterrevolutionary rebellion.” Zhao was dismissed and a number of the student leaders were arrested.

1989 was an especially bad year for democracy and freedom, both in China under communist attack and in California under Democrat attack

by Michael D. Robbins, FraudFactor.com, June 3, 2005

In 1989, China had a population of about 1.1 billion people and a standing army of about four million soldiers. If only ten percent of China's civilians were armed with the traditional defensive and sporting firearms banned by the socialist Democrats in California in that same year, that would have been a citizen's militia of 110 million, greatly outnumbering the Chinese military. In the United States, at least half of all homes possess firearms, with the average number of firearms per home being more than two. That percentage in China would amount to at least 550 armed citizens.

The socialist Democrats in the California legislature, with full press propaganda support from their comrades in the news media, enacted a dangerous and repressive ban on traditional semiautomatic firearms mislabeled as "Assault Weapons" and misrepresented in newspaper and television news reports as fully automatic machineguns. Semiautomatic firearms fire one bullet for each pull of the trigger. They differ from other types of repeating firearms, such as revolvers and bolt action and lever action long guns, in the method used to load the cartridge into the chamber and align it with the barrel, and to remove the empty brass shell casing.

To gain support and reduce opposition to their firearm ban, the Democrats including those in the news organizations intentionally misled the public into believing that their firearms and those owned by their loved ones would not be banned. This created the opportunity for the Democrats to entrap, punish, and harass their unsuspecting victims after the law was passed.

The banned firearms are functionally identical to traditional defensive and sporting firearms dating back to 1896, long before we had the increased violent crime rates that resulted from soft-on-crime Democrat legislation and policies.

The Democrats and their fellow socialists in the news organizations misrepresented and exploited the murders committed by Patrick Purdy at Cleveland Elementary School in Stockton, California. They covered up the fact that Purdy had a long history of violent criminal behavior including multiple felonies. They covered up the fact that Purdy should have been in prison for many years after the day he committed those murders for his previous violent felony convictions.

However, the soft-on-crime Democrats including Attorney General John Van de Kamp and Senator Dianne Feinstein refused to fix our catch and release criminal justice system and then pushed gun control to cover up their dangerous failures.

Democrat Speaker of the Assembly Willie Brown made a deal with RINO Republican Governor George Deukmejian, who signed the "Assault Weapons Control Act of 1989", AB 357 (Mike Roos)/SB 292 (Sen. David Roberti), and then received a spike in his pension and support for the now existing light rail system he wanted.

One version of this legislation contained language designed to ban potentially all centerfire semiautomatic rifles and shotguns. (Centerfire means that is uses ammunition other than .22 rimfire.)It increased the minimum barrel length to be longer than the existing state and federal standard, and banned any semiautomatic rifle or shotgun that had a barrel length less than the new standard, and a folding stock, or that could be converted to an assault weapon. Under this definition, potentially any semiautomatic rifle or shotgun could be "converted" to an "assault weapon" with a hacksaw and a screwdriver.

Thus, while the communist Chinese government was mowing down students in 1989, the socialist Democrats were mowing down our self-defense rights recognized and protected by the Founders in the Bill of Rights but not by the socialist Democrat party.

The scientific criminological research shows that gun control increases violent crime through many mechanisms. Gun control shifts the balance of power to favor criminals over ordinary citizens, destroys the multiple deterrent and crime control effects of armed citizens, and diverts attention away from real and effective criminal justice reforms while providing a smokescreen for soft-on-crime politicians who oppose real reforms.

Remember Tiananmen Square!

I remember that week in June 1989. It happened when my family was on vacation at Ocean City, MD. I was about to turn 9. The story was being featured on CNN for the bulk of the time.

A replica of the Goddess of Democracy statue is going to be erected near the Capitol in Washington, DC, as part of a Victims of Communism memorial.
