And, from www.valleyfordemocracy.com:

Rally Against Arnold

Start:
Tue, 06/14/2005 - 5:00pm

SANTA MONICA MARCH AND RALLY AGAINST SCHWARZENEGGER
TUESDAY JUNE 14th, 5:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Gov. Schwarzenegger has been asked to deliver the commencement speech at Santa Monica College for the June 14th graduation. Let's be out in force to show that we remain united in our opposition to the Governor's cuts to education.

We will begin the march at 5:00 pm at St. Anne's Church (2017 Colorado Ave. (East of 20th Street), Santa Monica, CA 90404; Parking Available at St. Annes and at Calvary Baptist Church at 20th and Broadway). We will march south up 20th street to Pico Blvd.

The RALLY and PROTEST against Schwarzenegger will be held at the corner of PICO and 20th. The rally will be held in the SANTA MONICA COLLEGE parking lot. Protesters lining up along Pico will be able to hear rally speakers. We need people to protest until 8:30 pm to catch attendees leaving the event. Please bring signs to protest the Governor's cuts to education.

We are making signs at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 13 at the S.M.A.R.T. Offices in Santa Monica and will have all the supplies and language for writing on the signs. S.M.A.R.T., 525 Colorado, just east of 5th Street, Santa Monica. And for those of you who don¹t know already, we will not have union printed signs, so we need A LOT of handmade signs and thus we need your help A LOT.

Need an idea for a sign? Try these:

* Save Our Schools - Expel Arnold
* Save K-14 Funding
* Arnold's Initiatives Hurt Education
* Yes to Students - No to Arnold
* Don't Tax Students

This rally information is also posted at www.UTLA.org:
About Us

United Teachers Los Angeles (UTLA) was created in 1970 from more than a dozen different organizations representing teachers and support service personnel throughout the massive Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD).

A merger of the two major rival groups, American Federation of Teachers Local #1021 and the Association of Classroom Teachers of Los Angeles in that year succeeded in bringing all non-administrative, certificated personnel under the one banner of UTLA and its affiliates, the California Teachers Association (CTA), the National Education Association (NEA), and the American Federal of Teachers, AFL-CIO.

And HERE, at www.AFT1521.org:

The Guild has represented the district's faculty since the beginning of collective bargaining in California's community colleges in 1977, and is the largest local union of community college faculty in California.

Arnold Pecks Away At Free Speech

As a Santa Monica City College student leaving in the fall for Berkeley, I'm going to Tuesday's graduation ceremonies to support my friends. Since the governor is the commencement speaker, I will also be wearing a chicken suit, because Arnold is too chicken to talk to students about why he's hiking student fees and cutting education funding.

I would like to attend graduation for my friends but I've run into a little problem. We're being asked to shut up. The administration has announced, for the first time ever, that no pins, banners, signs, or any expression of dissent will be tolerated. Apparently, the new anti-speech policy at SMC was instituted just for the Gov., who refuses to listen to anyone but his big industry donors. I've even heard that they're shutting down the parking structure with one day left of school, patting down guests and graduates and making them pass through metal detectors.

I know personally just what Arnold's cuts to education mean. I left a well paying, stable job, to go back to school full time. Because of my old job, my income level was too high to qualify for any financial aid. Over the last year I made under $11,000, struggle to make rent every month, and just recently had my phone turned off. All this to become what Arnold calls a special interest: a teacher.

I always thought the cornerstone of education was the right to think and speak freely. But it's clear Arnold thinks differently. He's too chicken to face students and answer for policies that have hurt us by raising fees, diminishing grants and cutting funding for education.

I have a ticket to attend graduation but if Arnold and his goons guarding the chicken coup won't let me in, I'll be outside the gates with a message for Arnold: "Go Cluck Yourself."

Chicken Arnold

by Jerry Flanagan & David Fink

48 hours is not much notice for a graduation day speaker to give to students on whether or not he will actually show up at their ceremony. But that's exactly the predicament that Arnold has left for Santa Monica City College students.

So the students sent a chicken to meet Schwarzenegger in Sacramento this morning before his breakfast meeting with the Chamber of Commerce to ask why he is so afraid to talk to them. Maybe the gov is too chicken to face students after calling them "special interests" as an excuse to raise tuition fees? Invitations with the Gov's name on them sent out days in advance tell us that the Chamber of Commerce got a lot more than 48 hours notice.

The Santa Monica College "chicken Arnold" mascot joined 250 firefighters, teachers, and nurses to protest the Gov's pandering to his big industry contributors. You guessed it: Arnold ducked in the back door. But the Gov's chicken-hearted entrance did not help him escape the nurses, teachers and firefighters who infiltrated the event yelling: "Arnold, Arnold stop the scam - don't be a corporate girlie man..."

Our message to the "union thugs" and the "cancer from A.N.S.W.E.R." needs to be:

SUPPORT ARNOLD:
LET THE PEOPLE VOTE!
Or, perhaps with the COLORS reversed, and "THE PEOPLE" emphasized:

SUPPORT ARNOLD:
LET
THE PEOPLE
VOTE!

SPECIAL ELECTION: 11/8

I'm posting this at RonDog's request, and to give a quick update on a successful FReep at SaMo City College -- the gang is still "networking" at the after-party, so photos should follow!

Kudos to RonDog for organizing 20+ FReepers, plus some outstanding SaMo College Republicans who met at the corner of 16th and Pico in support of Governor Ahhnold, and to help counter the cancer from A.N.S.W.E.R. We had tons of media exposure -- all of the local TV stations, radio, and print outlets were there, and many interviewed folks from our side...
