From www.smc.edu/missedinformation/archives:
SMC Continues to Be No. 1 in Transfers to UC

Hundreds of SMC students flocked to the college’s annual Transfer Fair in October.

SMC continued to maintain its No. 1 position in transfer of students to the prestigious University of California system in 2002-03, far outpacing the community college with the second highest transfer numbers.

In addition, the college continues to be a leader in sending underrepresented minorities to the UC system and in transferring students to such private schools as the University of Southern California.

“SMC attracts highly-qualified students and challenges them to meet high expectations,” said Dan Nannini, SMC Transfer Center coordinator.

Transfer Center Coordinator Dan Nannini talks to a representative from UC Irvine at the college’s annual Transfer Fair.

SMC transferred 895 students to UC campuses last school year, far outdistancing the No. 2 feeder, De Anza College in Cupertino, with 589.

In addition, SMC:

Was the leader in sending African American students to UC (33, up from last year’s 27).

Was the No. 2 transfer institution for Chicano/Latino students to UC (after Riverside Community College), sending 88.

Was by far the leading transfer school to USC, sending 149 to the highly regarded university – nearly twice the number sent by the No. 2 feeder, Pasadena City College, with 75.

Ranked second statewide in its combined UC-California State University transfers.

Sends about 1,000 students each year to campuses throughout the U.S., including such universities as Yale, Stanford, and Columbia.

UCLA, UC Irvine and UC Berkeley continue to be the most popular destinations for SMC students. SMC transfers to Berkeley jumped significantly in 2002-03 over the previous year, to 109 from 87.

Representatives from about 100 four-year schools from throughout the country came to SMC to recruit students at the Transfer Fair.

Nannini credits the college’s quality faculty, aggressive transfer counseling efforts, high school outreach programs and the clout of KCRW, the college’s public radio station, as draws for its high caliber students.

Nannini said he is pleased that SMC is ranked so high in transfers of students from underrepresented minorities, but noted that the total is still lower than what the college would like. Specialized centers for African American and Latino students work hard to improve those numbers, he said.

Last week, we thought that there would be FIVE THOUSAND of them...
...and only a dozen or two if us.
THIS week, we now think that there may be LESS THAN one thousand of them...
...and perhaps over THIRTY of us. :o)
Either way, though -- since WE are smarter than THEY are...
... we intend to emerge VICTORIOUS. :o)

Not to worry. :o)
The opposition will probably not be there in force until after 6 pm...
...and the Governor may not be done speaking until after 7:30 -- or so.
So, we will be there for a while -- and you will easily be able to identify us:
We will be the HAPPY, smiling (recently showered) GOOD-LOOKING crowd. :o)
We just want as many of us to get there EARLY as possible...
...to PREPARE to thoroughly and completely "disrupt the disruptors."

[SOME] College Students Don't Want Governor To Speak At Graduation
Faculty Also Wants Invite Rescinded

POSTED: 3:56 pm PDT June 6, 2005
UPDATED: 5:55 pm PDT June 6, 2005

Students and faculty from Santa Monica College plan to ask its Board of Trustees Monday night to rescind an invitation to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger to speak at commencement because of his budget policies.

The group plans to use the meeting's public comment period to call for the trustees to take back the invitation, the group's Dan Braun said.

The plea is likely to be merely symbolic because the matter isn't on the meeting's agenda. Under state law, the trustees can't vote on matters not on the agenda. The board isn't scheduled to meet again until after the June 14 commencement, according to Bruce Smith, the public information officer of the Santa Monica Community College District.

The group wants a "champion of community colleges" to speak instead of Schwarzenegger, Santa Monica College history professor Kenneth Mason said. It claims that policies backed by Schwarzenegger, a Santa Monica College graduate, have made community college education "much less accessible," Mason said.

Schwarzenegger's proposed state budget calls for an additional $10 million for community colleges for the current fiscal year.

H.D. Palmer, deputy director of the state Department of Finance, said the governor's proposed 2005-2006 budget provides $436 milliion more for community colleges than the current year. He also noted that student fees will not increase, and they are among the lowest fees of any state in the nation.

It takes a lot of guts to go into a virulent commie strong-hold like Satin Monica or Satin Monica College, when you are overwhelmingly out numbered by rabid, hatemongers from the far liberal left.

"God's will! I pray thee, wish not one more person than shows up" "...he or she who hath no stomach to this rally, let them depart; their passport shall be made..." "The fewer, the greater the share of honour." "He or she that outlives this day, and comes safe home, Will stand a tip-toe when the day is named," "And gentle folks who miss this event shall think themselves accursed they were not present; and hold their courage cheap..." Henry V - slightly paraphrased for clarity and timelyness

You may be surprised at the growing, grassroots disgust with the far liberal left. It takes a lot of guts to go into a bastion of the far liberal left like Santa Monica. Afterall, State Senator Sheila Kuehl represents this area.

IMO, she has single handedly done more to destroy the sanctity of the traditional family than any other elected representative in the history of California politics.

Aye, but we have been supremely victorious in that "bastion" -- not long ago. :o)

Last Thursday afternoon, HUNDREDS of happy, smiling, flag-waving patriotic Americans gathered outside a "private, secret" fundraiser at the Santa Monica airport to welcome President Bush back to Los Angeles, for his first visit to southern California since March 2004.

Two very highly repected sources independently calculated that over FIFTEEN HUNDRED people overwhelmed the intersection of 31st Street and Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica, just north of the hanger in which President Bush, Laura Bush and Governor Schwarzenegger appeared at a private fundraiser which had not been widely publicized until a few days before the event --
with the crowd outside roughly divided into half pro-Bush and half anti-Bush.

On a Thursday afternoon.
In Santa Monica...

From historymedren.about.com:

The Miracle of Agincourt

Was Henry V's great battlefield victory a miracle or the inevitable result of circumstance?

by Christopher Hamme

"We few, we happy few, we band
of brothers.

For he today that sheds his blood
with me

Shall be my brother; be he ne'er
so vile,

This day shall gentle his condition.

And gentlemen in England now abed

Shall think themselves accursed they
were not here,

And hold their manhoods cheap
whiles any speaks

That fought with us upon Saint
Crispin's day."

These words, spoken by Henry V in Shakespeare's play of the same name, reflected the pride the English took in the memory of a glorious victory and, by connecting the Battle of Agincourt with a holy day, helped reinforce the popular belief that Providence played a role in England's fortunes during that historic battle. The ensuing bloody and chaotic clash seemed proof enough of divine intervention, because Henry's troops rose up to defeat a French army almost four times as large.

This rousing truimph during the Hundred Years War ranks alongside the rout of the Spanish Armada and the Battle of Britain as one of England's "Finest Hours..."

...The most prominent and decisive of Henry's battles occurred at Agincourt, where the French army attempted to halt Henry's advance. After a hard rain the previous night, the morning of 25th October, 1415, dawned wet and cold. Both the English and French took up positions in a clearing between the woods of Tremecourt and Agincourt--a gap that spanned about three-quarters of a mile at its widest point. Both armies were in a miserable state. Henry's small force had marched 270 miles since arriving in France, averaging about 20 miles a day, and had already nearly exhausted itself in attacking and capturing the town of Harfleur. Food was running low and a number of men were sick with dysentery. It had rained almost continuously throughout their march.

As for the French, they were trying to cope, none too successfully, with the soggy fields between the two woods. Mud covered everything, and most of the soldiers had gotten little sleep the night before as they laboured to keep their armour clean and dry. Military discipline began to break down even before the battle had begun, and by 11.00 the army was completely disorganized.

The French had come to Agincourt with an overdose of confidence, sure of their ability to crush the small English army. Poor leadership, however, completely negated their advantage in numbers and morale. When things began to go bad, French leaders were more concerned with avoiding responsibility than with restoring order.

Henry noticed the confusion in the French ranks and decided to make the first move. English archers fired once, provoking a chaotic, spontaneous charge from the French, in complete disregard for their leaders' commands. When this happened, the size of the French army actually worked against them. The woods of Tremecourt and Agincourt hemmed them into such a narrow front that the majority of the French troops bunched up in the rear, unable to get into the fight. In their eagerness to engage the English, foot soldiers fell and trampled each other. Cavalry horses became mired in the soggy ground, and knights in their heavy armour sank into the mud and suffocated.

By contrast, Henry's small army could easily deploy, allowing it to fight at full strength. And Henry had the perfect weapon to use against thickly massed enemy soldiers--one that more than made up for his numerical disadvantage. Agincourt became famous as the greatest victory of British archers.

The Welsh had introduced the longbow roughly 600 years before the Battle of Agincourt, but the weapon had been neglected and often misused in battle. Prior to Agincourt, most archers held their bows horizontally while drawing the arrows back to the waist. This method greatly reduced the bow's range and effectiveness. At Agincourt, Henry's archers employed the superior technique of holding their bows vertically and drawing the arrows back to their ears. The English bowmen could shoot nine arrows per minute and hit targets at 400 yards. Their proficiency took the French completely by surprise.

While the archers decimated the French ranks, Henry's army completely neutralized the enemy's most dangerous weapon--its powerful cavalry. In anticipation of the battle, the English prepared sharpened wooden stakes, which they planted into the ground at an angle, facing the French. Many charging French soldiers and horses impaled themselves on these obstacles, behind which Henry's bowmen could do their work unhindered.

By noon, the battle was over, with the remnant of the French army standing in defeat. Henry's army suffered only about 500 casualties, while the French had lost nearly half their forces in a single hour. The English won the day through a combination of advantages, both strategic and natural. Against these, the French superiority in numbers mattered little...

Yawn. Liberals vs. Liberal. Reminds of being in downtown Chicago and watching some PETA folks argue with a socialist activist from the Chicago Meatpackers union.

If only they REALLY were "fundamentally opposed to everything Arnold stands for". Then we'd get a slew of pro-life, pro-gun, pro-family, anti-envirowacko college Democrats. ;-)

"Yawn. Liberals vs. Liberal. Reminds of being in downtown Chicago and watching some PETA folks argue with a socialist activist from the Chicago Meatpackers union."

How do you know where my personal politics is just because I live in California? ...and since when did God die and make you the arbiter of what is definitively conservative and liberal politics? I was born and raised in the mid west and will put my patriotism and service to my country alongside yours any day, not to mention my conservative political views. Have you forgotten that California is the land of Ronald Reagan? Oh, and by the way, when's the last time you got off blogville long enough to take it to the liberals villifying conservative values in your neighborhood? Maybe coming on this site and tearing others down makes you feel self-important, but do you have anything consrtuctive to offer, or do you just routinely come to this site to spew your ignorance?

If you have something constructive to offer, we'd like to hear it. If not, if you only tear down others trying to work for conservative values, then maybe you are the one who has more in common with the liberals than any of us.
