GRAND CHUTE, Wis. -- This is my AFC prediction column, and you're probably wondering: What is that weird dateline doing on the AFC prediction column? Well, I came to Wisconsin over the weekend to take the temperature of Brett Favre and gauge his readiness for a 14th season in Green Bay, so it just happens to be where I am right now.
Favre interlude: The Packers QB holds an annual benefit softball game in this little suburb of Appleton, Wis., a 30-minute drive from Lambeau Field. He does it here because this is where the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League Class A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, play in a nice little venue called Fox Cities Stadium.
Favre looked good. Said he weighs 224 pounds and just finished a five-week, five-day-a-week workout regimen with former Notre Dame strength and conditioning man Ken Kroener down in Mississippi. The Packers paid for the training because they think Favre needs to be in better condition to withstand the rigors of an NFL season than he was last year. Which Favre, basically, confirmed. "People made a big deal of this," he told me, sitting at a locker in the Timber Rattlers' spartan clubhouse, "but I do feel better. This time last year, I hadn't really done anything."
Favre's conditioning program included stretching, body-weight lunges. . .

They media may finally be getting the message. A lot of the folks at ESPN who picked against the Pats in the playoff game against Indy swore they'd never make that mistake again. We'll see.
I think Dallas may be able to snatch the game at Texas Stadium away from the Evils, like they did in 2003.
He either thinks very highly of Jacksonville or he's down on Indy this year.

I'm thinking Indy will be almost the same, manning gets around 35 tds. Manning gets injured in game 12, comes back for the playoffs, they make it pretty far, maaaayyyyybee to the SB, it's a toss up between the Burgh, pats, and indy.
The Jets will make the playoffs over Buffalo and the Pats maybe even stronger this year.

We wouldn't stretch the field last season when we had Moss. What makes anyone think we'll do it this season with Williamson? Give me the 6'5", 39-inch vertical leap clone of Cris Carter any day.
Glad Napoleon Harris dominates in Madden 2005. But nn the real field, we have a history of taking reject Raiders linebackers (remember Harris chased Greg Biekert out of a starting job) and that doesn't cut the mustard.

Manning can't beat New England by himself. He needs a defense to do that and he doesn't have it.
The Chargers could end up with home field advantage in the playoffs, in which case they can beat the Pats. Whether they do depends on their offensive game plan and their ability to adjust to Bellechek's defensive scheme. Offensive game plans and adjustments have not been Marty's strength over the years, but he seems to be improving in this area and Cam Cameron is helping. They'll have to play one of their best games and get the crowd roaring to beat New England even at home, but I think they can do it.
Sean Salisbury was particularly apologetic.
Okay. I was kidding about Harris, but I think he'll be pretty good. An upgrady anyway. Williams beats Williamson in TDs, Williamson beats him in the other two.

Indy doesn't have the defense. They're going to have to go play outside in cold weather in January where their opponent will run the ball down their throats. Manning will be sitting on the sideline watching the clock tick away as the Indy defense gives up first down after first down.
Don't think I've ever read him. Some of the folks on NFL.com were as well, especially Pat Kirwan.
