"Plinking" derives its name from the delightful sound a .22 bullet makes as it strikes a tin can.
Good article, but can someone explain the meaning of the Mr. [sic] Adams to me? From comments and the name Mike, I assume that Adams is male. Why the added [sic]?
No problem. If I knew how to post pictures/graphics I too would join in ridding this site of trolls. :-)
I think Mike Adams has a PHD & prefers Dr. Adams.

Thank you - that would explain it. Tho' it also cuts him down a notch in my eyes... Smacks of some pretty serious elitism when you add a [sic] after a correct Mr. just because you prefer Dr.
Mike, if ya read FR, save me a nibble of the hog and maybe in the meantime I can shoot one of Rita's birds with a 12 ga to accompany the pig on coals.
You evil-minded FReeper!...;-)
Hadn't heard it called that before, LOL!
Welcome abroad!
It was her way of dissing him. He's a professor, and as such should be addressed that way.

Its not a liberterian thing... Second amendment is what allows other rights to exist.. Now as case law has it, porn is considered protected speech, albeit limited by time place and acceess. We can teach our kids that porn is wrong and still defend ourselves, but if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns/weapons to prey on society. I can tolerate porn, in exchange for the means to defend myself being protected..
I find it fairly comical when a PhD corrects the DMV clerk or the hotel registrar, "That's Dr. Jones, not Mr. Jones." In such a setting, who cares? Even most MD's will not bother to do so.
However, this is a formal letter to a university chancellor regarding a professor at the university. Use of "Dr." or "Prof." in this context is standard, and her failure to do so is either a sign of great ignorance or a deliberate insult.

Theoretically, but it takes a skilled craftsman and a lot of time and money to get nekkid ladies engraved on the receiver of a good rifle or shotgun.
I think it's just academician's gamesmanship, his doing that.
If you don't mind my curiosity, what in Millee's post did you find "trollish"?
That was right before I told an LSU student (during "Q and A") that taking people "plinking" in the woods with a .22 was a good way to get them interested in firearms.
I personally don't call it "plinking", but it is fun!
Hmmm, I've avoided an academic career for years because of the control-freak politically correct political atmosphere. Perhaps I should reconsider...
