MELBOURNE (Reuters) - An Australian woman was found to be carrying 51 live tropical fish after custom officials were alerted by "flipping" noises coming from beneath her skirt as she arrived at Melbourne airport.

On closer inspection, officers discovered the woman had strapped on an apron of plastic water-filled bags containing the fish, the Australian Customs Service said in a statement on Tuesday.

"During the search, customs officers became suspicious after hearing 'flipping' noises coming from the vicinity of her waist," said the statement.

The 43-year-old woman arrived in Melbourne on a flight from Singapore last Friday. Customs are still trying to determine what type of fish she brought into the country and have not yet charged her with an offence.

She could face charges for breaking quarantine and customs laws for bringing in the fish without giving a declaration.

A search of the woman's home in Melbourne found another five fish.

After a long, hot, arduous trip, the FISH were probably commenting to each other on their human host, "Gulp gulp gulp glug glug glug glug glug" (translated, "She smells like spoiled shrimp on the BARBEE").

not strange in that people try to smuggle exotic animals and fish out of Australia all the time esp the cockatoos and budgies, you get a lot of money for them on the black market

You remind me of the book collaboration between Barney Frank (D-MA) and Monica Lewinsky. Both being bird lovers, they once wrote a book titled, "I Never Touched A Parakeet, But I kissed a Cockatoo".

I've secretly toted around a trouser trout a few times in my day

Was it one eyed?

I'm having way too much fun with this.

After that Aussie dingbat got life in Singapore for carrying marijuana to Indonesia (talk about 'carrying coals to Newcastle', by the way), and hundreds more were slain in Bali by Al-Queda where the culprit got a few months in jail and a suspended sentence, why on Earth would any Australian with an ounce of brains be travelling to and from Indonesia in the first place -- much less smuggling goods one way or another?

If I were Australian, I wouldn't even brake for Indonesians.

Now if she had been wearing this Abercrombie & Fish classic, she could've told them the sound effects came with the jacket.

Glad you liked it LibWhacker.

It actually started out as a Rock Hudson joke, but I've modified it over the years to suit the occasion. It's destined to be a classic.
