N. Korea Exported to Russia 4,500 Missiles

In last ten years, N. Korea exported thousands of anti-tank missiles and SAM's to Russia, according to 'SIPRI Yearbook 2005' published by SIPRI(Stockholm International Peace Research Institute) on June 7th.

According to SIPRI Yearbook, N. Korea exported 3,250 anti-tank missiles and 1,250 surface-to-air missiles(SAM) to Russia between 1992 and 2005, and 45 SCUD-C missiles(range 500km) to Yemen between 2001 and 2002.

In addition, N. Korea imported 34 MIG-21 from Kazakstan in 1,999, and 34 Infantry Fighting Vehicle(IFV) from Russia between 2,000 and 2,001.

N. Korea spent 24 million dollars for importing arms in 2,001, but in subsequent three years (up to 2,004), their spending dropped to 5 million dollars.

According to SIPRI Yearbook, U.S. occupies the undisputed No. 1 spot as the country with the largest military spending, (accounting for) 47% of world's total military expenditure. U.S. is followed by Britain, France, Japan, and China.

Well, it sounds rather unusual, Russia importing arms from N. Korea, even though they are rudimentary infantry weapons. I looked at the source sitting at www.sipri.org, but it is rather a extensive PDF file. I looked at the few places in the file and gave up.

They've imported almost nothing since 1996. That means most of their equipment is at least ten years old... like much of ours.

Perhaps they are surplus missiles N. Korea failed to sell to various rogue nations on behalf of "Russia."

Re #5

Think of N. Korea as one of many outlet malls that handle discount (and deniable) Russian and Red Chinese arms trade.

N Korea is China's "barking dog". N Korea was put back in place after
Korean War as a buffer zone. China does not want US bases near
Yalu river.

I saw a pic a couple of weeks ago where Kim was jumping up on Chinese
leader like a puppy dog jumping into the lap of its master. Incredible
picture....worth a thousand words. Entire N Korean officer corps trained
in China by PLA. N Korean army is really Chinese army. China is the
organ grinder....N Korea is the puppet.

We should not even talk to N Korea.....talk only to China. China is the
principal behind the puppet.

We should make it clear to China...whatever N Korea does we hold them responsible. China sends massive assistance.....N Korea would not survive
without their only ally....China.

It pains me to watch as over 50 years N Korea has completely jerked
our chain. To see Albright toasting Kim with champagne is unbelievable.
Remember that peanuts cartoon....every football season Lucy talks
Charlie Brown into trying to kick that football....and every year Lucy
pulls the ball at the last minute and laughs hysterically? Thats been
happening to us now for 50 freakin years!!!

Our desperate hope that (crazzy) after all these years N Korea is going
to suddenly (what?) give up their only card (missiles and nukes) to make
us happy? The next time N Korea says they will go to talks we should
say no thanks.....we will talk only to your boss-China.
