Sorry to know you understand so well. It's sad. But there's a lesson to be learned, if I can only figure out what that lesson is.

I agree and just who do these people think they are that they can JUDGE what is viable. Seems to me a retarded child must have some viability as it is important that they no longer are denied school. In fact, special education receives funding under some "entitlement" if I am not mistaken. These times are very distressing, pitting one generation against another with no understanding, realization or acceptance of the worth of our elders.

That old people should die does not seem to be the point of the article. That was just the shock start to get you to read once again a tired litany of tripe BS against Bush. Then she shifts it to something like Bush wants to slowly kill off old people by cutting Social Security and everyone else by environmental deregulation and that we need a better answer. Of course like most leftists, she doesn't even try to suggest one (being a bit smarter than those few who suggest crushing tax burdens and that letting government do everything instead of evil business is the panacea for all problems, the details of how that works being irrelevant.) In the end, it made no sense. May she continue to discredit herself with such inanities.

But there's a lesson to be learned, if I can only figure out what that lesson is.

You might start by asking what gives a person value. There are a lot of ways to answer that question. Some answers lead to the conclusion that clinging to life is worthwhile. Other answers lead to the inescapable conclusion that a person has a responsibility to die when they are a burden and no longer have the requisite quality of life.

Answer the right question, and the rest of the answers become obvious.

. . . and will I watch his fortune dwindle? Will I - a baby boomer - live as long a life? I hope not.Unfortunately, few people reading this thread can ever imagine what you are talking about. I can.

You have got to be kidding. Why would these people not understand that you value money more than life?

For example, the Bush administration has achieved deep cuts in Medicaid, which supports many middle-class people in their post-golden nursing-home years, and it continues to fight for the evisceration of Social Security.

Hahahahahaha....

Couldn't read past there.

The Bush Administration presided over a Medicare bill that was the largest increase in benefits since its inception: the inclusion of prescription drugs. Ever since they've passed it, the estimates of the costs to the system continue to skyrocket.

And to say that he's 'eviscerated' SS is a joke. He hasn't even made an actual proposal, other than to suggest that Congress come up with a plan that includes miniscule 'private' accounts for younger workers.

But even that seems to be floundering under the attacks of the Dems, and in the intentional inertia of the RINOs.

a : capable of working, functioning, or developing adequately

There is no dignity left in my grandmother's case. Whereas she use to be so proud, so active - drove in her 80s, climbed ladders and painted her house, taught Sunday School, now she can't communicate.

It's painful to watch.

The big debate, IMHO, is to get back to personal responsibility to fund things away from government interferance. Once the ppl find someone else will fund their "Benefits" they have a tendency not to provide it for themselves. Then ppl have a tendency to hop on the gravey train and help provide the benefit. So the real reform is to get the Feds TOTALLY out of the health care business.

Anything else is "whistling past the graveyard". Some ppl do need help but what is wrong with the word "Charity". Ppl should provide their own benefit and not wait til life's close is at the door. (Not like it is a surprise).. Socialism is sure way to drain the pond eventually. Why is anyone surprised about the result..??

Perhaps you should more and judge less.

It's certainly not about the money. The government isn't keeping Grandmother in Depends; her children are.

Viable isn't valuable.

Read up, guys.

My grandmother is 102 1/2 - no longer a viable life, but she lives. Long outlived her savings which were vast at one time. Will my father, her son, live as long a life, and will I watch his fortune dwindle? Will I - a baby boomer - live as long a life? I hope not.

If I was one of your forebears, and read that post, I'd make sure you didn't get a plug nickel no matter when I departed this earthly coil.

thank you, spectre.

The lesson: There are several. One I can think of right now: My grandmother is beautiful, even if her teeth don't fit, and her nose has no cartlidge because she's broken it so many times. Even if her jewelry has all been stolen, and her clothes have this morning's breakfast on them. She's a child, so glad to have me or anyone pay attention to her.

I am sorry you have to watch your grandma. Just remember that once she was a dedicated vibrant caregiver that deserves the same treatment. I don't know of any death that is dignified and we all lose our vibrance with age.

Maybe the answer is quit medical technology so we will die earlier.

They'll be selling their grandmothers to make money off the flensing.

This will happen with or without the involvement of government.

Don't bother with these people, peacebaby.

I respect that you take care of your Grandmother. No one said you couldn't ever complain. Being a caretaker is a tough, thankless job.

May God bless and reward you for your kindness.
