Bush dinner's porn star: I'm a praying Christian
WorldNetDaily ^ | 6/8/05 | Joe Kovacs

Posted on 06/08/2005 7:39:02 PM PDT by wagglebee

Mary Carey, the buxom porn star slated to dine with President Bush at a GOP fund-raiser Tuesday, says despite her racy occupation, she's still a Christian, and has her own aspirations of winning the presidency in the future.

"I read the Bible and pray every night," Carey told WorldNetDaily in an exclusive interview.

The 24-year-old actress will accompany her boss, pornographer Mark Kulkis of Kick A-- Pictures, at "The 2005 President's Dinner and Salute to Freedom," costing $2,500 a plate and hosted by the National Republican Congressional Committee.

"We're not the freakish demons people make us out to be," said Kulkis. "I'm not a creep with a coke spoon around his neck. I'm a regular guy."

But the idea of the president of the United States rubbing elbows with pornographers is shocking to some, including Rev. Don Wildmon, chairman of the American Family Association.

"The reason these people are doing this is for publicity and to embarrass Bush," Wildmon told WND. "I think the Republicans can survive this, but they need to go public with an explanation. They need to exclude them or withdraw the invitation. Just doing nothing is the worst thing they can do."

Having just received her plane ticket from Los Angeles to the nation's capital, Carey said she's excited about the possibility of speaking personally with the commander in chief.

"It would be an honor to meet him," she said. "I'd like to talk to him about issues like freedom of speech and the crackdown on the adult industry. Maybe he can give me some political pointers."

The actress says it's among her dreams to eventually become president, and that's why she's getting involved in politics now.

She previously ran for California governor among a large number of serious and not-serious candidates in the wake of the recall of Gov. Gray Davis, resulting in the election of actor Arnold Schwarzenegger. She's currently considering another bid, deciding whether to run for governor or lieutenant governor, where she says she might have a better shot at victory.

"People can relate to me," she said. "I come from a middle-class household and I'm very friendly."

Carey, whose real name is Mary Ellen Cook, says she was named after the Mary Ellen character on "The Waltons" TV show. Born in Cleveland, she was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., studied theater in college, and worked jobs in restaurants before trying stripping and then making the decision to enter the world of celluloid sex.

"I kind of wanted to be a porn star," she said. "I wasn't raped or abused."

With a Lutheran grandmother, Carey says she attended church regularly until the age of 12, and still considers herself a Christian in spite of her occupation.

"I probably have less sex with those guys than any college girl [typically has]. It doesn't make me less moral," she said. "I'm sure a lot of Christians have had sex before marriage. God reads my heart. I'm a good person. ... I think I have more morals than the politicians in office. I don't rob, steal, hurt, or lie – a lot of politicians do that."

When asked about Bible verses condemning adultery, she responded, "Bill Clinton committed adultery. [Doing] adult movies is acting, portraying a role. It's not Mary Ellen Cook, the real me."

She maintains pornographic movies don't harm anyone, and are beneficial in a way, providing safe fantasies for the "lonely" public.

Last month, the actress was among five people arrested at a new strip club in a suburb of Tacoma, Wash. All were accused of violating the local adult-cabaret ordinance, some by getting too close to customers and others – including Carey – by touching themselves in a sexual manner, according to the Associated Press.

Kulkis, 40, says he'll be representing the $10 billion porn industry as well as his own company at the fund-raiser. A native of Michigan, the English literature major turned pornographer says he'd be surprised, disappointed and upset if he were somehow turned away, but he doesn't expect that to happen.

"I have good intentions," he said. "We're not out to corrupt the country. ... You can be faithful to your wife and still enjoy adult movies."

Kulkis has mixed feelings about Bush, describing himself as a fiscal conservative and social liberal. He also notes the trend of pornography becoming more prevalent and accepted in American society.

"Let's face it," he said. "You had [hard-core porn actress] Jenna Jameson's book on the New York Times best-seller list for weeks. Porn now is pretty mainstream."

WorldNetDaily readers have a wide variety of views about the upcoming dinner:

* "The Republican tent is broad and needs to cover all people – even those with views and lifestyles with which we disagree." (Thomas R. Moore)

* "It hurts for self-respecting citizens to watch their leaders play the fool for influence ... Let's not let those who abuse their bodies, and our children's future, buy a voice in this administration." (K.R.)

* "Mr. Bush brings many virtues to his job. But, he refuses to lead on important moral issues. When Janet Jackson outraged Super Bowl viewers, he professed to be asleep and ducked the issue. ... [T]here is a vacuum of leadership on issues important to this country. Yes, Mr. Bush can and should speak to the issue." (David Wallace)

* "Look how far the Republican Party has come in just two decades: from Reagan's Commission on Pornography, under then-Attorney-general Edwin Meese in 1985, to today, porn stars invited to a White House fund-raising gala. The leadership of the Republican Party has lost its mind." (Brian Hudgins)

* "Basically politicians are prostitutes anyway. Why should there be a problem associating with porn stars and entrepreneurs?" (Ken Zwick)

* "If you stop and think about it, you can see where Bush might be her hero. I can't think of anyone who has screwed more people in such a short period of time. Especially the veterans." (Fred Perry)

* "Why wouldn't they use porn stars at a fund-raiser? Porn stars are about 10 steps above politicians. At least they are honest about what they do. The real question is why would the porn stars want to degrade themselves?" (Bob Bolton)

sin is sin - but those who have accepted Jesus and are following Jesus through His Word DAILY are washed in His blood.

More severe penalties? HOW SO? It's hell or heaven.

Defending and then repenting is not what is happening here.

Not sure what you are saying that I haven't already said - of course the Bible is full of warnings about sin. How else would we know about sin.

Christians are quite capable of choosing sin/defending it - AND? THAT MAKES IT RIGHT? We are sinners by nature BUT Christians choose to turn away DAILY under the conviction of the HOLY Spirit.

Christians DAILY take up the cross - turn from flesh DAILY, fall DAILY AND REPENT DAILY, and are led by the Holy Spirit. Their faith grows DAILY. Somehow, you want to dump anyone that says they are Christian, while deliberately and boastfully living a sinful lifestyle, under the same umbrella as those who choose a lifestyle following Him rather than following one's own fleshly desires.

Without Christ in my life who knows where I would be - I am not any better than anyone else but I am BLESSED because of my choice.

There will be a time when some call evil good and good evil and that time is here now.

You asked, "I am curious where it is, Biblically, that people justify condemning this woman." Point to one who is condemning her on this thread ... you are perhaps confusing the Christian admonition to deal with sin in the midst of the Church, and condemning this woman. So far, I've seen not one person taking the part of the men picking up stones to stone the woman at Jesus's feet. I have seen and have joined in an effort to point up the contradiction in her words and actions. Not being a Christian, perhaps this is a difficult distinction for you, but Christians are instructed to not allow the fallen to fellowship continually when they have no part in the Resurrection found in Christ Jesus. It is a Christian 'thing' to want this beautiful young woman to turn from her sin and accept the transforming presence of God, in reality not lipservice, into her life. That must be a hard thing for you to 'hear'.

Arrogance and hubris.

The old: "I know I am right and I'll beat you into submission to prove it!"

I'm sure that history's dictators all thought they were doing right by their moral compasses.

Show me the FBI sociological profile linking serial killers

ROFL!
FBI profilers have yet to catch a serial killer. I deal with fact, not fiction. Let me know when profilers actually catch a serial killer. You connected serial killers to pornography. I pointed out the Bible reading BTK killer and suggested you work back from him. More serial killers have been Bible readers than porn readers. That is a simple fact in the real world, not the imaginary world of the profiler.

BTK is the typical serial killer. They get away with it for so long because people like you don't suspect them. Who is BTK?
Dennis Rader, devout Christian and respected member of his church for 30 years, and president of the church council. He still is president of the church council even while behind bars for torturing to death ten people. Children were also tortured to death.
Why? He enjoyed Corporal Mortification but to others, not himself. It made him feel close to God. The Cult Of Suffering has claimed many victims over the years. I have not a doubt that Dennis Rader would despise Marey Carey too.

and child molesters / rapists to bible reading.

Have you already forgotten the scandel of the child molesting and child raping priests?
Want to go for the sex scandels of Jimmy Swaggert, Jim Baker and Tammy Baker? How about Jim Jones serving cyanide laced kool aid to his flock?

Then I will show you the one (profile) linking pornography.

Only one? Hell, I could show you many. They are worthless. I'll repeat...No serial killer has ever fit the profile he was given before he was caught. Not one.

There are evil people in pornography and there are evil people in the church. There are also good people in both places. I suggest you clean up your own house before you damn Marey Carey.

More severe penalties? HOW SO?

You're kidding right?

You don't know that in the Bible God prescribes the death penalty for some sins and for others He prescribes merely restoring property to the offended party?

Why would God prescribe more severe penalties for some sins if He didn't consider them worse?

Christians are quite capable of choosing sin/defending it - AND? THAT MAKES IT RIGHT?

Whoever said it "MAKES IT RIGHT"?

My point was that we can't judge a person as NOT being a Christian because they happen to fall into sin.

With all due respect, you really need to keep track of what the dialog is about so you can respond to a poster's actual statements.

Just a suggestion.

And I ask where it defines what she does as a sin. How is "sexual immorality" defined?

If the Bible does not define her work as a sin, then wrongly accusing her of being apostate is sinful, and those who criticize her should be shunned from Christian fellowship.

How about #7 above.... "If you knowingly, habitually commit sin...you have no business calling yourself a Christian. " Isn't saying someone is not a Christian mean that person is condemned, or do you go by the idea that there's a way to be saved other than through Him? Sounds to me like there is condemning going on, or else wishful condemning.

But here's a hint: by some means known to Him, God applies the blood of Christ forward in time from the crucifixion and backward in time, also.

Where does the Bible say such a thing?

You can do whatever pleases you. You seem to have a thing about "judging and condemning".

According to you, if the terrorist's started calling themselves Christians, you would say "now, we don't know if they aren't Christians in their hearts".

I REPEAT - "WE will know them by their fruits". AMEN

If you don't believe God when He says that - don't.
I believe it and if a non - Christian asks me, "Can I live like her and be a Christian" - I would say NO! According to your thinking, you would say, "If in your heart you think you are a Christian, and since everyone sins, it would be ok".

If I believe in my heart that I am the smartest person in my neighborhood, does that make it so? I could be deceived. So believing something in my heart is just something I want to believe about myself and according to you - I must be right. Instead of you taking a stand and showing me the errors of my boastful 'heartful thinking' - you will let me slide into my boastful ways since it is what I believe in my heart.

Be Hot or Cold but lukewarm - I will spew you out of my mouth.

The porn babe can do whatever she wants - she knows exactly what she is doing and I am not condemning or judging BUT I will not let it pass saying her lifestyle is that of a Christian just because she believes it in her heart. She is deceived. Only a fool rejects correction.

I need to keep tracK? (Of course, with the "with all due respect".)

Happen to fall into sin? Is this what she did - just happen to fall into sin? Or did she made a decision to choose a life of sin and boast about it? Christians are ashamed of our sins - the only thing we boast about is how Jesus' Blood saved us, redeemed us, washed us clean.

For some reason, you can't see the difference.

You can do whatever pleases you. You seem to have a thing about "judging and condemning".

Only unjust judgment and condemnation.

Jesus says "judge not, lest you be judged".
Something you seem to have conveniently forgotten.

According to you, if the terrorist's started calling themselves Christians, you would say "now, we don't know if they aren't Christians in their hearts".

What an absurd and extreme distortion.

Next you're going to be claiming I said Hitler could be a genuine Christian.

All because I don't believe sinless perfection is the test of one's Christianity.
Incredible.

There is a plethora of ingenious and complex intriguing features in English Lit...nothing like it in the world especially the classics.

It's the people who often major in it that are prone to disturbing behavior and attitudes.

Why do you keep saying condemning and judging?
Unjust as opposed to just??

I repeat - I did not condemn her - people condemn themselves and God judges. And He explains it explicitly in HIS WORD. I forgot nothing but that's the only verse you hang onto.

It is not absurd or a distortion - you said, "if she believes it in her heart, then it is so. Your statement only applies to the porn star?

I have no idea what you are going to say next.
