`Deep Throat,' Tripp both have stuff of heroes
Chicago Tribune ^ | 6-2-05 | John Kass

With so much attention rightfully being paid to the unmasking of W. Mark Felt as "Deep Throat," the source of Watergate fame, it was time for a cultural experiment.

So I typed "W. Mark Felt" into the news bar in Google and pressed the "enter" key.

(snip)

But cultural experiments must be fair. Otherwise, angry Nixonians could accuse me of liberal elitism, or is that elite mainstream mediaism?

To add balance, I typed in "Linda Tripp" next to Felt's name and pressed the enter key.

Guess what happened? Not much.

(snip)

So Felt is the hero. And last I heard, Tripp was being ridiculed about her physical appearance, portrayed by the obese John Goodman on "Saturday Night Live."

"You should have predicted that," said Chicago attorney David Schippers, a Democrat who knows something about presidential abuse of power and impeachment.

"Felt is treated as a hero, and you know something? He was heroic," Schippers said. "He stood up to power. And Linda Tripp was heroic too. But they destroyed her."

Schippers, whose family has been involved in Cook County Democratic Party politics for decades, was the chief investigator for the House Judiciary Committee, which pushed the impeachment fight against Clinton. He argued passionately for Clinton to be convicted.

(snip)

Tripp is the Pentagon employee who secretly taped conversations with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, which led to impeachment proceedings against President Bill Clinton, a Democrat, who also abused power but did not resign.

(snip)

While hushed reverential tones around Felt are obvious, Tripp has been ignored. When mentioned, she's ridiculed. Why?

"Because Felt put down a Republican president. And Linda Tripp nailed a Democratic president," Schippers said.

I'm not in agreement with Schippers' opinion about Felt. He could've resigned and taken his story public another way. But he sure is right on target about Tripp. Linda Tripp will always be villified by the MSM, the Dcrats, and the public who refuse to be properly informed. THANK GOD FOR LINDA TRIPP .. You'll always be a hero! .. May the Devil-of-the-Blue-Dress NEVER again reside at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave ... as a househusband or anything else.

Sore Throat

"Ben Stein, former speech writer under Presidents Nixon and Ford, observes that in helping bring down the Nixon presidency, Felt helped put in motion a series of tragic and deadly events. These included the defeat of South Vietnam's government, followed by decades of death and oppression for its people, and the assumption of power in Cambodia of the Khmer Rouge, which murdered millions.

Just what was so bad about the Nixon presidency? It was a liberal's dream. Nixon ended the war in Vietnam, brought home the POWs, ended the war in the Middle East, saved Israel, opened relations with China, started the first nuclear weapons reduction treaty, imposed wage and price controls, created the Environmental Protection Agency and passed the first Clean Air Act.

Not so bad when compared with a Clinton presidency whose weak response to Americans being killed by terrorists on three continents, starting with the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993, emboldened al-Qaida to strike on 9-11, initiating the war on terror.

Perhaps if Clinton had Osama on his mind instead of Monica on his lap, the world today would be a very different place.

We have said we would not question the motives of Mark Felt. We do question the motives of those whose righteous indignation at presidential misconduct depends on whose ox is being gored."

================================

Linda, I hope you've found peace and happiness in your life at last.

I don't remember Tripp having the same kind of personal issues as Felt driving her. The worst that could be attributed to Tripp is being a pushy mother hen smothering Monica from her concern. Felt allowed a personal vendetta to be used to nullify the electoral votes of forty-nine states. And throw the world into turmoil which I would argue we haven't recovered from.

Hmm .. Linda Tripp only had her very life and survival to consider.

That was the rest of the story I failed to include. Felt was a powerful, veteran executive in national law enforcement. Linda was a low level employee, and a Republican at that, in the most liberal and corrupt Democrat administration ever. Did you ever read the post entitled 'A few people Clinton didn't have to pardon'(http://home.comcast.net/~carmat/clinton.html )? No question about it she was the genuinely courageous of the two.

Amazing, isn't it? Right here in the US of A? This is akin to Alamo-Girl's notable Downside Legacy. Thank you for that link.

Tripp would have been a more likely hero except for her physical appearance. Had she looked like Fawn Hall she would have been fine. However, her physical appearance was that of a snitch/witch. It didn't take the mainstream media to formulate opinions in that regard. It was a given.

Testifies to the MSM doing "surface" analysis.
So much for beauty of spirit...apply that to Hillary.

Frankly, if Hillary had done the same thing as Linda, the outcome, based on looks would have been the same.

Knowing top FBI agents took out a duly elected President makes a difference.

These guys were probably on speaking terms with the top journalist of their day. The fact that they chose cub reporters, and the way they played them, tells me they took their social psychology seriously.

Deep Throat should be arrested, and Woodward and Bernstein should give back their prizes. ( And yeah, Nixon was a crook, but what this bunch did was worse)
