How To Make Firefox Even Faster
Internet Chat Forum ^ | me222

This should only be done on broadband NOT on ISDN or dialup:

Go to the address bar and type in "about:config" Look for the following lines:

network.http.pipelining = false network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 4 network.http.proxy.pipelining = false

and replace it with (click or double-click the line to change it)

network.http.pipelining = true network.http.pipelining.maxrequests = 30 network.http.proxy.pipelining = true

This means it will make 30 requests at once and not wait for a reply to the request before making another request and you'll be able to load pages MUCH faster.

Any drawbacks?

There's always a tradeoff, or else this would be the default setting. Some websites will see a massive speedup, some will actually load slower, and for most, the improvement is not all that significant. Try it out and see how it works for you, though.

The one I posted below, however, can greatly improve speeds sometimes.

I think so. Try it, if not, go back and undo it, it's worth it.

The paint delay will make much more of a difference than the pipelining, honestly.

How do you change the values? I could find the lines, but couldn't change anything.

I did this exact mod on my Ntscape browsers (7.2 and 8.0).

It worked for me in Mozilla 1.7.8 on Linux OS. Netscape versions 6 and above are essentially Mozilla + some added features, so I suspect it "should" work for you. Firefox is essentially Mozilla minus the EMail client. All are closely related.
