U. S. Rep. Tom Tancredo, a vocal critic of President Bush's immigration policy, announced he would run for President in 2008 - if he could not find a more viable candidate to adopt his views on illegal immigration.

The majority of the American people do not support the immigration policies of the Bush administration. The American people overwhelmingly want our borders secured and enforced. Our southern border has been and is an absolute joke under the Bush administration. Yet more evidence of that fact was the videos of illegal aliens at the Arizona border shown on Hannity & Colmes during the time of the Minutemen patrols.

Those who support rewarding illegal aliens with legal status don't want Cong. Tancredo's message to be heard. Unfortunately for them, it is going to be heard. Cong. Tancredo's opposition to the McCain-Kennedy amnesty plan for illegal aliens will provide the American public an opportunity to see the differences between him and other potential 2008 Republican presidential primary entrants such as Sen. McCain, Sen. Brownback and Sen. Hagel. All of them support amnesty for illegal aliens.

More and more Republicans involved in national politics are willing to separate themselves from the policies of President Bush that reward illegal aliens. Any amnesty plan that President Bush sends to Congress will not pass the United States House of Representatives. Whether it is called amnesty, doesn't matter. Any plan that gives legal status to illegal aliens is dead on arrival in the United States House of Representatives. The House version of the McCain-Kennedy amnesty plan for illegal aliens will go nowhere fast.

You're dreaming. Something like sixty two million Americans, most of whom are Republicans (you know, those idiot quislings you and the other Tancredo fans love to hate) just reelected Bush to a second term, and they knew damned well what his policy on the border was. I sincerely doubt that the Mexican border policy will be the major issue of the next presidential election. Tancredo won't be running against Bush anyway. If he wants the Republican nomination for president, I'm guessing he'd better find a way to best Cheney, Rice, Allen, McCain, et al, in the REPUBLICAN primaries without pissing on the Republican base. Good luck.

Anyone but McCain though. Go Tancredo!!

There is no list of "illegal aliens". All one would have to do is apply for a guest laborer visa while back in Mexico for Christmas holidays.

That's exactly what opponents of illegal immigration want to happen, for foreigners who want to come to the U.S. as a guest worker to apply from their home countries.

You are very wrong about me hating sixty-two million (62,000,000) Americans that voted for President Bush. I am glad those Americans voted for President Bush and not Sen. Kerry. I certainly wanted President Bush to defeat Sen. Kerry. I did not want Sen. Kerry to appoint judges to the United States Supreme Court or any other court. I think the appointment of judges was one of the important reasons why this country needed to have President Bush reelected. I think he has done a very good job in appointing judges.

Those Americans did know "damned well" what President Bush's policy on the border was. However, Bush voters concerned with border security knew they had a choice between a Republican candidate whose border policy was terrible and a Democratic candidate whose border policy would have been just as bad and probably worse. President Bush was most certainly not reelected because a majority of his voters agreed with his border policy.

Immigration and border security were rarely mentioned by either candidate. The only time that I remember immigration being mentioned in the debates was when Bob Schieffer asked a question about it in what was I believe the final debate. He prefaced his question by saying the issue that he had received the most e-mail about was immigration.

Poll after poll have indicated that a majority of the American people do not agree with President Bush's immigration policies. An NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey was conducted among 1005 adults between May 12-16, 2005. Respondents to the survey were asked their opinion of President Bush's proposal "to allow foreigners who have jobs but are staying illegally in the United States to apply for legal, temporary-worker status." Only thirteen percent (13%) of poll respondents favored this proposal, while twenty-five percent somewhat favored this proposal. However, thirty-nine percent (39%) of poll respondents strongly opposed this proposal. Nineteen percent (19%) of poll respondents somewhat opposed this proposal.

With regard to your list of potential candidates for the Republican nomination that Cong. Tancredo "better find a way to best . . . without pissing on the Republican base," I believe that Cong. Tancredo would welcome the opportunity to debate immigration policy with any of them. I do not believe Vice-President Cheney will run. However, if he does, I would enjoy seeing he and Cong. Tancredo debate the issue. I also don't believe Secretary of State Rice will run. If she does run, then maybe she can explain why she believes the Minutemen are "vigilantes." Sen. McCain supports amnesty for illegal aliens and has joined forces with Sen. Kennedy to sponsor legislation giving amnesty to illegal aliens.

The Republican base does not support President Bush's plan to give legal status to illegal aliens. The Republican base does not believe the Minutemen are "vigilantes." The Republican base does not support Sen. McCain's plan to give amnesty to illegal aliens.

I meant to say in the first paragraph of the above post the words "one of the most important reasons."

I meant to include in the lengthy post above my opinion that Cong. Tancredo would almost certainly welcome the opportunity to debate Sen. McCain's amnesty scheme with him.

I don't get it. The problem isn't with our message, but with a lot of the messengers.

Kerry would have been just as bad as Bush with regard to border security. The security of our borders under President Bush has been a joke and it would have been a joke under John Kerry, just as it was under Bill Clinton.
Neither Kerry nor Bush have any commitment to securing end enforcing our borders.

Several of the 9/11 hijackers were illegal aliens that had overstayed their visas. Why were they in this country once they had overstayed their visas? Why hadn't they been deported. There are millions of illegal aliens that have overstayed their visas in this country. Why are they allowed to remain in this country? Hundreds of thousands of Americans are victims of crime each year by illegal aliens. These illegal aliens should have been deported before they ever had a chance to prey upon American victims.
