Report: company's classic 'Hilltop' ad revamped as campaign to launch new Coke Zero.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Coca Cola is once again looking to teach the world to sing, according to industry reports.

Resurrecting the famous "Hilltop" ad from 1971 that featured the 1960s-like anthem, "I'd like to teach the world to sing, in perfect harmony," Coke (Research) plans to target this generation's youth with its new "Chilltop ad," the industry publication Beverage Digest reported Friday.

~~~~SNIP~~~~
According to trade publications, "Chilltop" will be set on a Philadelphia rooftop, and hip-hop artist G. Love will croon new lyrics to a group of 18- to 24-year olds:
"I'd like to teach the world to chill,
take time to stop and smile
I'd like to buy the world a Coke
and chill with it awhile."
I wonder if they'll have a promotion where you get a free tin ear with your Coke.
G. Love is pretty cool. I wouldn't necessarily call him "hip-hop" though. Here is a pic of him at an Austin City Limits festival in 2002.
Why does Coke even bother advertising? It's a consumer staple now, like flour and sugar.
This white guy singing to crime infested black Philly will be accused of racism. Coke better apologize now or face the shakedown of Jesse and Al.
Oh goody. Can't wait to have that insipid jingle going through my head again. Time to infect a new generation.
That's nothing....my power company, LIPA, runs commercials on television.
They can't stop advertising, not for a minute, advertising is a double edge sword. A self-destructive black hole. The bigger they get, the more brands try to take a swipe at their market share, so they have to advertise...more and more.
Nike is in the same boat, they still have to advertise, maybe not quantity, but they still have to come up with more clever slogans, niftier ad campaigns, bigger stars to promote their products.
If Coke or Pepsi stopped advertising, they would fade very quickly.
They can't stop, they are stuck.
There are ads for the Union of Electrical Workers on local TV up here.
Why? Beats me.
