NEW FBI CRIME REPORTS REINFORCE GUN OWNERSHIP SUPPORTERS

ALBANY, NY -- (06/13/2005; 1400)(EIS) -- Recently released FBI crime data validates statements by gun ownership advocates that last year's expiration of the so-called "assault weapons ban" would not impact crime and may, in fact, help improve community safety.

According to an FBI report, the national homicide rate has declined for the first time since 1999. The report shows that homicides declined 5.4 percent in cities with more than 1 million people and overall murder rates dropped 3.6 percent.

"I think this justifies our statements that the expiration of the ban would not have a negative impact on crime in this country or in New York," said Tom King, President of the New York State Rifle and Pistol Association.

When the ten year old ban on certain semiautomatic firearms expired last September, gun control advocates and media outlets warned of increases in violence, especially against children.

"Unfortunately, those same people trying to draw the connection between crime and gun ownership have apparently stopped trying to make such a connection public. And, apparently the media is not as concerned with publicizing these truths." said King. "Violent crime has decreased since the weapon ban expired. What can be more telling than that?"

"Violent crime has decreased since the weapon ban expired. What can be more telling than that?" Sorry to say, but correlation is not causation. This kind of logic will get us into trouble when the next mass shooting occurs.

An armed society is RESPECTED, and therefore not mugged, assaulted and then murdered! Of course, law-enforecement may be out of a job, hence the lack of the MSM reporting such good news!

The left in this Country love an unarmed people, so they become "victims" of crime, and they in turn have a calling, protecting the criminals, because it is the GUNS fault and not the fault of the criminal committing the crimes! Remember those lines of BS?

Aruging that correlation is not causation, while true, never won us any points with the logic-impaired gun-grabbers. We have to play to win, here, not by Marqis-of-Queensbury rules.

I understand the article to rebut the claims by the anti-gun crowd that crime would go up when the ban expired.

I'm looking at getting myself one of these at the gunshow this weekend.

Springfield Armory M1A Loaded

Anyone know a good price for these? I've been seeing them on the 'net for around $1500-1700.

An armed society is a polite society.

That particular book wasn't one of Heinlein's best, and the notion that a society based on a code duello would be a polite one doesn't hold up too well in places like Afghanistan.

But an armed society is a polite society because, as all us CCW holders know, having a weapon raises the consequences of losing your temper so much that you just don't do it.

It's not so much a 'polite' society (the other guy can say awful things to you) as it is one with self-enforced forbearance.
