Mystery shrouds attack on Volusia councilman

DEBARY -- Volusia County Council member Bill Long confirmed Thursday that he was beaten in his home earlier in the week by a close friend he would not identify.

Long, who lives alone, refused to offer details on the incident Thursday and even asked deputies who responded to the 911 call at his house early Monday not to file a report, leaving a shroud of mystery around the incident.

"County Council member or not, what takes place in the privacy of my own home is my own business," Long said Thursday.

"Boys will be boys," he said. "I have no intention of seeking any criminal charges against a longtime good friend."

I heard this on the radio a few minutes ago and the DJ had the Village People's "YMCA" song in the background.

"They're going to need to send probably an ambulance or something," said the man, whose name was not released.

The dispatcher asked whether the incident was domestic.

"Um, probably," the man said. "Probably. I'm not too sure."

"DeBary City Council member Patrick Fulton, a longtime business partner whose house is co-owned by Long, said he wasn't involved in the incident, although the two did meet earlier in the evening."

I wonder who the Macho, Macho Man is in this "partnership". /sarc
