Sickening series of photos for that tank crew. Slow, and certain.

It is a quagmire! All bogged down! Stuck in the mud! Sinking in the muddy quagmire!

And we all thought the Democrats and the MSM were lying to us. Here it is in living color.

Oh, this type of thing has happened before......

And sometimes no water is needed to cause a problem...

If you like pictures of tanks, APC's and general mayhem, check out:

Especially good is the Kuwait/Desert Storm picture section. I went to high school with the site's author.

When I was on active duty, look at my profile if you want to know when and where, my recovery crews got a case of their favorite adult beverage for every tow job. The DAT's soon learned some self recovery techniques.

The marines used the M88 .... the army used an 120mm MPAT(much better)!

These guys are lucky that it didn't go inverted. They were a hair away from rolling it over. Thank God that it stayed upright.

Oh man, someone's got some 'splainin' to do. In all fairness, it looks like the shoulder collapsed on him.

Talk about a "wet clean up"!

Hopefully, the designers will incorporate side impact water wings in future versions of the M1.

To the liberal way of thinking, this just shows the danger of SUV's. If those soldiers had been riding in a Honda, this never would have happened.

BTW, where was this? Were these guys in that operation going on in Western Anbar?

Isn't there an emergency egress from the belly - just for events like that?

Dunno - my clue bag's about as empty as the "Excellence" or "Success" boxes on that TC's next NCOER.

D'oh!

The M-60 series tanks had a hatch right below the driver but not so on the M-1 Tanks.

I sank my tank at least once each year. My wingman walked up when I climbed out of the TC cupola and sat on the front fender. He walks up and stares without saying a word and utters, "Cpl Sm****c, you are Bog Beast".

It is all in the name of good training and when I do drive vehicles, I do know what to look for and avoid when in the field (though I am no longer a Marine Tanker).

If the terrain is unknown while driving over or idling on, you just best be careful if you get that sinking feeling. Otherwise, you will do what I had to do and dig out the mud and worm your way INTO the mud to attach the tow cables and that is not fun with how the tank could be positioned. (not that I know from personal experience..ahem) I had Marines grab ahold of my legs to pull me out if I got stuck or the tank lurched downward. What fun.
