Arkansas student held on terrorism charge
Jun 17, 2005, 2:45 PM

FAYETTEVILLE - A graduate student at the University of Arkansas has been arrested on charges that he was planning to join a terrorist organization and launch attacks on Israel.Federal agents arrested Arwah J. Jaber on a criminal complaint accusing him of knowingly attempting to provide support to a foreign terrorist organization.

A naturalized citizen, Jaber is to appear in U.S. District Court in Fort Smith on Tuesday.

In an affidavit, FBI Special Agent Richard Blair said Jaber acknowledged in an interview at his residence that he told his Ph.D. professor and others at the university that he was going to Palestine to "fight for freedom, peace and justice."

The agent said Jaber said he would rather die fighting for freedom against Israeli terrorists than stay another six months at the university trying to complete his Ph.D.  The criminal complaint obtained by KFSM 5 News indicates that Jaber hoped to use his knowledge of chemistry against the Israelis.

Investigators also said an e-mail the student sent to two university professors said he decided to take a job in Palestine with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Organization.

The U.S. State Department considers the Palestinian Islamic Jihad a terrorist group.

Jaber was taken into custody at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport earlier this week as he prepared to board a flight bound for the Middle East via Memphis, Tennessee, and Amsterdam, Netherlands.

He must have put an awful lot of trust in the professor, to tell him his intentions.

Fort Smith
Jared Broyles Reports
Terror suspect to appear in federal court Tuesday
Jun 17, 2005, 7:59 PM
FORT SMITH--After terror suspect Arwah Jaber's arrest at the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport, the accused terror suspect was take in federal custody to the Sebastian County Detention Center in Fort Smith. Jaber is set to appear in U.S. District Court in Fort Smith this coming Tuesday at 9:30 AM. The U.S. attorney will attempt to establish probable cause, and the judge will also decide on bond.

This afternoon, the former Undersecretary of Homeland Security, Asa Hutchinson told 5NEWS it’s highly unlikely bond will be set for jabber.

"In this case there allegedly is info that he was leaving the country,” Secretary Hutchinson said. “He has substantial foreign contacts, and so, it would be doubtful in my judgment because of the risk of flight and the seriousness of the allegations that bond would be extended."

Jaber is charged with a magistrate’s complaint which allows him to be held until grand jury convenes June 28th and 29th. At this point, we know very little about what the future holds for this alleged terror suspect, other than he faces very serious charges in federal court. The criminal complaint against him reads: "…there is probable cause to believe Arwah J. Jaber knowingly attempted to provide material support or resources to a terrorist organization, specifically the Palestinian Islamic Jihad…".

Several phone calls late this afternoon to a U.S. Department of Justice spokesman were not immediately returned. The U.S. Marshall's office says there's no added security at the facility simply because Jaber is in custody.

Why are we allowing these Trojan Horse jihadists to settle in our nation?

Radical Islam is an insane murder cult; moderate Islam is its Trojan Horse in the West.

Was it the professor who told? If not, the professor deserves arrest as well.

PhD student? I thought they were supposed to be educated. Not a very smart move for him to advertize his plans. I thought terrorists worked with secrecy?

He probably had nothing to fear, telling a college professor.

He's a college kid. College kids think they know everything and can change the world.

He wanted to get caught if he sent an email indicating he was joining a terrorist group.

And, it appears, it was a college professor who turned him in.

The Professor's Leftist "Hate/Blame America" diatribes must have encouraged the would-be terrorist to confide in him or her.

Three days from now, we'll be seeing this sucker's face on A.N.S.W.E.R. propaganda signs saying that he's been locked up because he dared to speak out against the Israeli's.

Ladies and gentlemen, you were here at the birth of yet another liberal literati-cause-of-the-second.

terror suspect Arwah Jaber

You're right though, just a typical college kid; probably just doing this "bomb Israelis thing" to join a Greek Fraternity. /sarcasm

He was enroute to the Middle East when the feds picked him up. The airport is just up the road from me, and my wife and I are both UofA students (at least I was up until this past semester).
