Police are investigating two violent home invasions Friday.
The shootings and break-ins appear to be unrelated, officials said. However, in both cases, the victims said the gunmen were strangers to them.
One of the crimes happened in southeast Kansas City at 8603 Corrington Ave. Police said a man came to the house asking if a car was for sale. The husband and wife who live there said it wasn't.
Less than an hour later, three people burst into the home and ordered the woman to the floor at gunpoint, police said. Then, her husband surprised the intruders by wielding a gun.
Shots were fired. Two of the intruders were hit, but they escaped in a truck with someone who was waiting outside, officials said.
The second home invasion happened on the east side at 2811 E. Ninth St.
A resident said at about 10:30 a.m., the door was kicked in and strangers invaded the house.
"They entered through the front door, tried to proceed through the house and then that's when I came out and startled them, and then they exited the premises. Before they left, they rang out some gunshots," the resident said.
KMBC's Peggy Breit reported that bullet holes were seen in the walls and ceiling.
No one was injured. The resident said he felt lucky that no one else was home at the time.

No harm, no foul. The more stories like this get posted, the better.
Amen. Amen. Amen.
I live in the country and it takes the Sherriff at least 30 mintues to get out to our developement so I lean on the fight right away side but there is no blanket statement to apply to all situations. If someone is bold enough to break into your place when you are home, then you have to assume the worst. I pray that my wife and I never have to make such a snap decision.
I have a Surefire too and well as an alarm system. I lean toward fight was well.
I say you protect yourself at any cost. Chances are the perp will kill you anyway so...put a little hurt on the perp first AND...by surprise. Maybe you can avoid any harm upon your person or your family that way. I'd rather die fighting for my family and my home than to let them suffer at the hands of an invader who would kill them anyway. Those are our thoughts.

The injured party may repel force with force in defence of person, habitation, or property, against one who manifestly intendeth and endeavoreth with violence or surprise to commit a know felony upon either. In these cases he is not obliged to retreat, but may pursue his adversary till he finds himself out of danger; and if in a conflict between them he happeneth to kill, such killing is justifiable.
I keep the MP-5 ready for uninvited guests like these.
The wife also knows how to use it,or her USP,1911A1-etc.

Oooohhhhh an HK - you must be one of those "rich Republicans".
A good dog is better than an alarm. At best, he'll scare them off. At worst, he'll buy you time to wake up and get armed
nope...Sig .... it's just like an "HK" ..... but not.
