The LDS Church doesn't have a greater number of problems with homosexual/pedophiles infiltrating its Boy Scout leadership ranks than other troops sponsor. The few it has are trumpted on the front page.

The LDS Church sponsors more troops than any other sponsor nationally. Church leadership is usually quite effective in screening out problem youth leaders.

It,s not the parents are stupid, only because they are so caught up in their world of troubles they forget about the children. It is more about "me" than the children. I am a soutmaster in a troop, and I had a problem with a very smart boy scout. His main problem is his parents, his mother to exact. When his mother is not around he did fine, but when she was in the picture, his mood altered drastically for the worse. On a hike, we have a policy to never leave the troop
for any reason. We were out in the wilderness, and he left the troop to go on his own to find his way back to camp. He ran from one of the assistants, before he caught up with the child. When we got back to camp, I called his mother to tell her he was suspended for a month, and she became outraged. What I did i protected my boys, and myself. Should he became lost, I would have to face the media, the sheriff, rescue squads, search parties, and who knows whatever. His mother removed him from my troop and put him in another troop. Not only do we prepare scouts for leadership, but we scoutmasters have to do a lot of reparing by damaged parenting. Howl all you want, take care of your children

Sad! Sounds like the priests and molesting of children issue. Keep it quiet, ssh! Ridiculous to say the least.

THIS IS MY COUSIN THAT IS MISSING. His mom is my first cousin and I grew up in Bountiful, 5-10 miles from the Hawkins. Please be sensitive. I will be going to help search in the morning. My brothers went up this morning to help search.

Additional information: The boy who disappeared last year was not at an organized scout camp. Even though they were lost 15 miles from one another, the boy last year was lost while fishing at a mountain lake in a rugged area in the back country. His dad was fishing with him when he disappeared without any trace as he headed back to the tents. I went on a 50 mile hike through this area when I was a scout.

Brennan is lost at an organized scout camp that is used every year all summer long for scouting activities. The area is a large bowl without a lot of trees. The edges of the bowl have a lot of now thin timber that was recently burned in a forest fire. There is a river running through the camp that is not very big. maybe 10-15 feet wide and is higher than usual due to the heavy runoff this year. Brennen is 11 so he was not there officially as a scout. I believe most of the scouts there at that time were 16 and 17. Brennan went because he was invited by his friend whos dad was volunteering at the camp. He promised Brennan's Mom that he would take care of the boys. I can't immagine what the parents are going through or what their neighbor who took the boys up there is also going through.

My brother said you would almost have to try to get lost in that area because everything in the camp is in a mostly flat open area. Going up any hill means you are leaving the camp. The two most likely scenarios are that he drowned in the river or was abducted. They are doing background checks on camp workers and other people in the area. There just aren't that many people that live anywhere near there but there is a criminal investigation going on as well. There have been divers searching the river too. I will post more information when I can. Please pray for Brennan and his family during this horrible time.

Agree....If it saves the kids life or catches the SOB who may have taken it .....who cares how long the media runs the story ? I have this cool little tool when I personally get tired of something on the TeeeeeVeeeee Noooooze. It's called a remote and I can change the channel any time I want . I don't even have to get up from the lazy boy recliner to do it.......:o)

Amazing what they're doing with technology these days.....

Me too. It's so unfair to kids these days. Walking in the wilderness nowadays exposes them to real dangers from four legged creatures and now two legged creatures are lurking about.

Parents might need to revamp the line of thinking which goes "kids are safe most of the time while separate from their parents" to "families should do things together as a family all the time."

Indeed. Keep your children close. Seriously. I know camping trips and Scouting are good for boys, but (worrier that I am) I never permitted mine to go on similar trips.

would you send your kid off to where there was an abduction last year?

You did not read the article(s), did you?

The disappearance last year was not considered an abduction. In fact, this current disappearance is not considered an abduction---yet.

Please get the facts before you call names.

I am a soutmaster in a troop....

I completely understand your complaints. My wife is a former elementary teacher. We know all about the horrific parents out there.

However, your issues have nothing to do with this article. Please stick to the topic at hand.

THIS IS MY COUSIN THAT IS MISSING.

All our prayers for your family.

Even though I am from Pennsylvania, I know your area well as having spent much time there in the late '80s. I understand the frustration everyone must be feeling given the relatively "open" terrain.

Have faith.
