And the nominee is...???You would have to ask Dirty Harry. Lord knows, Frist has no [fill in blank] to support a Dubya nominee.

I'd like to see Estrada, but I'm not holding my breath. I think there'll be two nominations; one for Chief Justice, and the other to replace Rehnquist.

Hello,
I heard the same. If true, watch for the fireworks to begin. Everything we have endured from the Dems will look like child's play compared to what is coming. Not saying that we will lose, but it will get wild!
Glad to be here, MOgirl

Hell yes, but nothing us battled hardened Freepers can't handle. ;^)
To: Howlin
Silly how everyone said, "Vote Bush, the Supreme Court is the most important issue and Bush will nominate good judges."
Instead, we have a few prime candidates that are truly anti-American.

Nah, I think the real fun will be when one of the die hard libs retires, since that will shift the balance of power from 5-4 to 6-3.

Replacing the judge is more important than naming the Chief Justice, although you can do both at once.

Interesting question. I wonder if there's ever been a recess appointment of a SCOTUS justice.

Presumably, it would not be Gonzales in that he has been attorney general but for five months. But again, it would not surprise me at all if the choice is the "moderate" Gonzales.

Again.
And since, as usual, you don't have anything of value to add, try not to muddy up the thread.

Wonder if this insider information had anything to do with Frist changing his tune on Bolton after his meeting with Dubya today.

Doesn't the chief justice set the agenda for hearing the cases??

Recess appointment Bork and watch DU stew!
To: Tree of Liberty
I would love to see The President nominate Scalia or Thomas to the Chief Justice position and maybe Judge Janice Rogers Brown to the Supremes. After all, the Senate just voted to confirm her, so what could possibly be the problem?

I agree. Scalia or Thomas will probably get promoted, and someone else will be nominated to take their former place as associate justice.

My prediction is this won't be the big battle. This is a conservative for conservative pick. The Dems will save their filibuster for when O'Connor or a liberal retires (or dies, as old as those codgers are getting).
To: gopwinsin04
Now nominating BORK, that would be sweet.

Bush would never recess appoint a Supreme Court Justice. Nor should he.
Nor should any President.

To: andyk
I think that might be the best strategy. Don't let the Dems focus on one nominee. If they try to filibuster, nuke 'em. And not just judicial nominations. Let's get Bolton through, too.

If he appoints Gonzalez, all hell will break loose. We need a reliable pro-life justice to replace Rehnquist. We need a MORE conservative court, not a less conservative court.
No RINOs. This isn't a position you appoint someone to just because he is an old friend.
This is the bottom line. No compromise.
