Twenty-five percent (25%) of Americans have a favorable opinion of Howard Dean, Chairman of the Democratic Party. A Rasmussen Reports survey found that 40% have an unfavorable view.
The fact that 65% of Americans have an opinion is unusual for a Party Chairman. Just 25% have an opinion about Dean's Republican Ken Mehlman-- 9% favorable and 16% unfavorable.
Among Democrats, 36% have a favorable opinion of Dean while 27% have an unfavorable view. Republicans, by a 57% to 16% margin, have an unfavorable view of Dean. Among those not affiliated with either major party, 22% have a favorable opinion of Dean while 34% have an unfavorable view.
Mehlman is viewed favorably by 15% of Republicans, 6% of Democrats, and 4% of unaffiliated voters. His unfavorables are 10%, 22%, and 17% respectively.
Forty-eight percent (48%) of men have an unfavorable opinion of Dean while 29% have a favorable view. Among those who are married, Dean's numbers are 25% favorable view and 43% unfavorable.
Mehlman is viewed favorably 12% of men and unfavorably among 20%.

It shows that Howard Dean is doing a great job for the Republican Party.
This poll is wrong. Republicans love Dean ;-)
He's gonna crash and burn too early in the election cycle. Rats.
This is kinda sad, but this is the first time I've ever heard of this guy Mehlman. I'd probably know his face if I saw it on TV, but otherwise he's done a relatively good job of staying out of Dean's way.
Hmmm. Guess I missed the breathless headlines that read "Dean's approval dropping as fund raising efforts fail to meet targets."
The other 35% couldn't find the right chad and voted for Pat Buchanan.
The long knives are out for Howie-boy. And they've got "Hillary" engraved on the blades.
The polls should be ignored. Dean is the greatest person in American politics, as he systematicaly destroys the democrat party.
I am sick of polls.
How has anyone heard about Ken Mehlman?
Ditto..
Wow! I understand there's a rule of thumb that says at least 25% of the public will detest you, and at least 25% will love you, regardless of who you are. Looks like Dean has hit bottom. He's a gift from God for us 'Icans.
The 25% of the Democratic Party that belong to the Michael Moore fan club also like Dean.
I love Dean, he's the one of the greatest reasons to vote Republican!
And 35% - "Isn't he that whackjob that goes "YEE-AAAH!"
He is one of my most constant, faithful correspondents. Hardly a week goes by that I don't get a friendly note or email from this guy. ;o)
Since when are popularity polls taken for the chairman of a political party? I guess the Dems really are poll-driven. Since this is the case, who fires Dean if his favorability ratings plunge even lower? The DNC? Kerry?
What ever we are paying Dean, it's not enough.
