Not a political antenna in the entire GOP ranks. The GOP is squandering a political opportunity, seldom available. I wonder if any of the GOP senators are as committed to victory in Iraq and the War on Terror as George W. Bush is.
I know none of the Democrats are rooting for the USA. Well, Joe Lieberman, perhaps. But very quietly...

You've hit on something, Okie. And perhaps there's an explanation.
The DEMS obviously want power- they want to win back the Presidency and the Legislature.
Many of the GOP Senators want personal power- they see themselves as the next President, especially where there is no established front-runner.
This desire for personal power among many of the GOP Senators, makes them resistant to taking a principled stand. They don't want to get into the trenches, they want to be about the fray. They want to sit back with a finger in the air, and see which way the wind blows, so as to further their own agenda.
So, you may be right- But regardless, it stinks!
