Eine Kleine Biographie (Peggy Noonan on Hillary Book)
Wall Street Journal ^ | 6/23/2005 | Peggy Noonan

Posted on 06/22/2005 10:19:04 PM PDT by sirthomasthemore

I have read the Hillary book by Ed Klein, which has been heavily dumped on by conservatives, and understandably.

In terms of political impact it is not a takedown but a buildup. Dick Morris says its sensational charges will only "embolden" her.

They will certainly tend to inoculate her against future and legitimate criticism and revelations. The book is poorly written, poorly thought, poorly sourced and full of the kind of loaded language that is appropriate to a polemic but not an investigative work.

Here are some significant things about Mr. Klein's book: It comes from an establishment journalist who's had his professional ticket punched at the New York Times magazine and Newsweek. He has no conservative bona fides; he says he is and appears to be essentially apolitical. This is an anti-Hillary book by the MSM.

"This is an anti- Hillary book by the MSM."

*************

Peggy, and other conservative writers, are on to Klein- and not taking the bait.

But lest Hillary get to comfortable, Peggy explains, "he [Klein] ignores the Rosetta stone of Hillary studies, the senior college thesis she wrote on leftist organizer Saul Alinsky and how to change the American political culture, which her alma mater, Wellesley College, obligingly continues to suppress on her request. There is little on the Rose law firm."

And she then forewarns- "What is needed is a big and serious book by respected reporters who can dig, think and type, and whose sourcing standards are high and unimpeachable. Will that happen? It would be big if it did."

Peggy's message, if Hillary runs for President, there WILL be a real book. Hillary has not innoculated herself yet.

Hillary may be a die hard leftist but even I have trouble swallowing the idea she's that machiavellian. The voters of New York don't see her as an extremist and this book will only innoculate her by painting all her adversaries as unhealthily obssessed about her sex life and her marriage of convenience with a philandering husband. Americans don't care about who Hillary sleeps with. There are serious reasons why Hillary shouldn't become President but this book detracts from making that case.

Warning, Warning, warning!

...[Klein] ignores the Rosetta stone of Hillary studies, the senior college thesis she wrote...\

The actual text of Hillary Clinton's college thesis has been a closely guarded secret. Any long-term Freeper has knowledge of how closely her thesis has been protected from being released to the public.

So, do you have documented and verified information about the content her thesis, that has not been released to the public for well over 20 years now?

Peggy Noonan pens a cogent essay here. (Although I still haven't completely forgiven her for her panning of a pretty good State of the Union speech, I'm slowly returning to her readership.)

Author Klien scares me a bit. I'm not yet assured that he hasn't planted some source/credibility mines in the book, that will later allow pro-Hillary liberals in the MSM to say "discredited" every time they mention the work.

The conspirator theory inclined among us might wonder if Hillary herself had this book written to vaccinate the voters against believing her character and background facts. (I'm reserving judgement on that point.)

Didn't the thesis come to light when she ran for N.Y? That's when I recall hearing about it...

But there again, Bill's letter about loathing the Miltiary NEVER made a television as best I can tell..So why should I hold my breathe about her thesis?

Exactly, and you won't hear the media demanding it be released either. That Thesis is where the sun don't shine, and will remain there. They don't want anyone to actually see proof in her own words that she is a communist do they?

It's too over the top. It seems hard to believe, not because it isn't true but because it isn't likely,

This column is dead on! Home run - Noonan!

Agreed. It's her thesis that will destroy her. But it's guarded better than Fort Knox. Thus far.

To: onyx; doug from upland

I remember reading some of it here on Free Republic maybe 5 or 6 years ago. Ask Doug From Upland.

The problem with it was that it followed Saul Alinsky's philosophy that the ends justify the means. The "end" was of course some sort of socialist dictatorship run by Hillary! Not an original thesis by either of these garbage haulers. Just the usual Marxist trash talk regurgitated into a disgusting mess that even a starving dog wouldn't go near.

I sort of remember our threads here, but I know the actual thesis she penned has never seen the light of day because she had it sealed at Wellsley. I figure it must be DEVASTATING.

What's wrong with "polemic?"
Wasn't Peggy Noonan's little book on hillary a polemic?

And since when must a book be a magnum opus--or even well written--to contribute to the political discourse?

Noonan's reasoning is circular. She criticizes Klein for inoculating the clintons against 'legitimate' criticism by describing their outrageous and abnormal acts even as she concedes that the clintons have a natural immunity to exposure because they (and their acts) are inherently outrageous and abnormal.

Noonan's criticisms and criteria--many valid under ordinary circumstances--are rendered moot by the book's famously rabid, vengeful subject. For example, seeking sources who are willing to go on the record about missus clinton is an exercise in futility....

"Just the usual Marxist trash talk regurgitated into a disgusting mess that even a starving dog wouldn't go near."

O-o-o-o-o-h! That's really bad then!

I thought a thesis was public record stuff.

Noonan doesn't mention the "rape of Hillary" charge that gave us Chelsea Clinton. Talk about over the top trash talk.

No one who has risen so high in American politics could possibly be that bad. To believe is to go to a dark place.

The very attractive and intelligent Peggy Noonan lives in a Blonde World. She hasn't had to pass through the Darkness. The Devil has convinced her that he doesn't exist. Underestimating the dark intentions of Hillary is the BIG error.
