Woman Arrested For Alleged Road Rage Over Ride The Rockies Tour

A 66-year-old Western Slope woman was arrested Wednesday after bicyclists on the Ride The Rockies tour accused her of road rage.

The Colorado State Patrol arrested Betty Lorimer as she drove along U.S. Highway 50 in her pickup truck.

Cyclists said the woman was swerving near them and honking her horn continuously as she passed them. She appeared to be upset they were using the highway, the cyclists said. They notified authorities on their cell phones and gave them a description and license plate of the vehicle.

State patrol Sgt. Tim Keeton arrested the Grand Junction, Colo., woman because he said she was so upset that letting her go with just a ticket would have increased her rage and put the cyclists in more danger.

Keeton said a loaded handgun was found in her pickup when it was impounded. But Lorimer said she was carrying the handgun legally.

The 2005 Ride the Rockies tour involves 2,000 cyclists on a 7-day ride from Grand Junction to Breckenridge, Colo.

I might become just at nutty as this woman if I came upon 2000 bicyclists. Dealing with a solo rider in the middle of the lane on a windy road with blind turns is enough to push me over the edge.

Masses of green leanin' bicycle riders on public hwys are the new oppressed minority...

Grannie was probably worried about accidently running one over and stressed out a little..

They can be some seriously abnoxious critters

Naturally as soon as they finally got one car driver to bite they called the law and whined

imo

Was "honking her horn continuously" the crime?

Anyone who rides his/her bike after they get a drivers license is a loser. I'm with the granny on this one.

I've encountered this, and the bicyclists are unsympathetic to motorists who are stuck driving at 5mph.

They need to share the road as well, not just hog it.

Damned insensitive homophobe conservative Republican!

Adult girlie-men juveniles playing little boys' games is lots more important than normal people going about their daily lives, dontchaknow?

You're right. Now I gotta go hang my head in shame...

Although I still think a spandex wearing helmeted hood ornament would look cool on my truck.

If there was a minimum speed posted as there is on most highways the bicyclists should of been thrown in the pokey.

Me too. But Ride the Rockies is a big event in CO. I wonder if the organizers didn't do a good enough job controlling traffic.

I would tell you to go have sexual intercourse with yourself, despite the fact that it could get me banned-- but why bother wasting my time on a complete ignoramous?

I live in thickly settled Alexandria, Virginia. How is it that bicylcists are allowed the glide right through stop signed intersections, while those of us in cars must stop?

One bicylist on a road is one thing.... some are better than others, but this was an organized special event, where the bicycles should have been granted more leeway and patience by any driver. Good grief people, slow down, go around and relax. There is no right to never have another citizen slow you down on the highway.

Cops continuously do this: A guy calls into 911 and the cops ticket something without witnessing the crime. Am I the only one thinking this is completely illegal? How can a cop go off other citizen's words?

Do you wear spandex and the gay yellow bracelet when you ride your bike?

Because cyclists all over NoVA think the rules of the road don't apply to them.
