This will not stop until those responsible discover that the decision to seize anothers' private property is not survivable.

YES, I have been wearing that tinfoil hat for a while. My lefty friends were always shocked when I agreed vehemently with their claims that we were sinking into "corporatism". The writing's on the wall now.
That's "corporate-socialism", not "corporatism".
To: Quick1
This isn't a liberal vs. conservative issue, there are just as many DUers pissed of about this as there are Freepers. That's exactly right. As I've said before, they've got a dog in this race, too.

This was a misguided decision by SCOTUS.
They simply failed to use cost benefit analysis and only looked at the benefit.
Here the benefit is that investment yields commercial developement, jobs and the homeowners get market prices for their property so there is no cost in the narrow view.
Taking a broader view, because everyone's property can now be taken via emminent domain, everyone's property in the entire United States is now worth a little less.
That is the cost the SCOTUS failed to realize.
This is repeated again and again throughout govt. "if we only spent a little more on xyz program, we could get these benefits" They never tell you about the costs which are higher taxes which diminsh work incentive and reduce economic activity.

Thanks for your post. I had NO idea how bad this is. I listen to Neal Boortz a lot and that's where I first learned about this issue. Boortz talks about starting at the local level and slowly getting a citizens group together....that is, to monitor local officials. What do you think about that? We'll pray for your success. Please keep us posted!

YES, we MUST NOT lose ourselves in the partisan blame game. The judges ruling in favor are authoritarians. They are not liberals in any sense of the word. Neither are they conservatives. This decision was a power grab, of, by , and for the government.

After three days, Georgy Porgy Bush II is still absent. It's becoming obvious to me that Bush feigns conservatism, but what he really is -- as a previous poster put it -- is an elitist.

Staytrue,
You make a cogent analysis, and I can't disagree.
Let's just say given my hands on State experience, I've seen first hand where the 3 branches don't check each other, but rather, work in confederation in the service of "government".
As to New London, and just is mere speculation that I've posted before, I wouldn't be surprised if this was a deal by the national governing elite whereby the Submarine Base there would be eliminated, but this "project" would go forward to provide a "lift" to the area and jobs.
Time will tell. But again, good post on your part.

You should realize that this ruling on property rights (or lack there of) proved the tinfoil hat wearers right in their paranoia against government.I'm taking my tinfoil off now. This ruling proves I am actually mainstream.

Voting for incumbents is a major part of the problem.
I have voted for 1 successful incumbent in my life. That person is the current president and my vote after all did not count because I live in a so called "blue state.".
I'll never again vote to reelect anyone to any political office.

They can have my land, when they take the deed from my cold dead hands, but they'll be looking down the barrel of a S&W (pre PC S&W purchase--and as with anything like that w/ me, used) .38 snubnose before that...
If they start really abusing this newfound power, we may have to do like some brave GIs did in a corrupt Tennessee town years ago--take up arms against the government..
BTW, though we're right too, the DUmmies are right also--this is FASCISM. Of course except for the leanings on issues along the political spectrum, fascism and communism are ideological paternal twins. Cast from the same root, but taking divergent routes, that the common man is too stupid to be trusted with their daily lives in their control, needing a philosopher-king (to use the carefully nuanced words of Plato) to rule over them, whether it be the Duce or the Commissar. Both deny the dignity of the individual and put one group or another outside of the relam of acceptability in their respective societies. In fascist Italy it was democrats (small D), in Nazi Germany it was principally (though not limited to) jewish people, in the Soviet Union it was Christians, capitalists, those who believed in a pluralist society, etc.
But anyone that tries to come in to take my property better have a plot ready already.

Radix,
Have you got that right! Here, in Ct, John Rowland was an EXCELLANT man. But, the inherent corruption in government ate him up. It was a damn shame. But, the point is, over and over, the same thing happens to many, many well intentioned people. They just become part of the system.

This decision was a power grab, of, by , and for the government.I thought this was a land grab for private usage.
A land grab for government usage is what is now considered good around here. Ya know. The more urban renewal projects that are publically(government) owned the better.
Right???

Well, it is a land grab by well-heeled interests through the instrument of local government. It is a power grab by government because they hold the power of eminent domain, and that power has been expanded.

monitor local officials
*****************
Recovering, Glad you recovered! :)
Ideally, monitoring local officials, would be the solution. Unfortunately, the Court just gave these public officials a "get out of corruption free" card.
That is, say like you openly opposed someone for Mayor of your community. Then, let's assume, the Mayor sees a chance to make more tax revenue for the locality by acquiring property in your neighborhood, including yours.
Up to this point, you might have fought back by arguing that that the Mayor's action was merely a vendetta against you. But now, all the Mayor has to prove is that the project will benefit the tax revenue of the City. It's criminal.
It seems far fetched, but the legal mechanism is now there- and it is serious. People might now not realize it, until they themselves are confronted by it. But honestly, it is the most egregious abuse of elite/governing authority since WACO- and that was, more or less, and isolated occurrence.
But, in any event, thank you in advance for your prayers. As to my cases, I'll need them. :) And certainly, I will remember you and yours in mine tonight.

To: FreeReign
government usage means private contractors , equals big money for the right person..The possibility for corruption is massive here.Someone close to me works for a myor in a North NJ town..He's ALREADY drooling at the possibilitys here..Dump some local homes and get in the BI BIG BIG $$$$ mall planners ( of course , there is a little SOMETHING in there for the mayor for his cooperation). The mayor wants to retire in 3 years as a rich man ..here's his chance..
You think these local political hacks give 2 flying craps about the"community"?.This is an outrage..
