Man Accused Of Impregnating 10-Year-Old

PORT ORCHARD, Wash. -- A man who is believed to have gotten a 10-year-old girl pregnant has been charged with first-degree child rape.

Jeremy Daniel Cockerham, 28, of east Bremerton, pleaded innocent Tuesday in Kitsap County Superior Court and remained in jail with bail set at $250,000. His trial was set for mid-August.

Cockerham is the girl's stepfather, officials told KIRO 7 Eyewitness News reported.

According to documents filed by prosecutors in court, police were alerted in March by state Child Protective Services workers who learned that the girl was pregnant. She initially told detectives she was impregnated by a 10-year-old boy, but police Sgt. Kevin Crane says investigators never believed that account.

"We investigated that and we determined with a high probability that that wasn't even possible," Crane said.

Last month the girl gave birth, and DNA tests from a laboratory in North Carolina indicated with a 99.99 percent probability Cockerham is the father and ruled out the boy, who also was tested, police said. Further DNA tests at a state crime laboratory are pending.

The girl, now 11, is living with the baby boy and her mother.

I heard the mother of this 10 year old child is also pregnant by this guy but that is unconfirmed. Anyway, mom picked a real winner here. I hate to think of all the other times this child was raped by this vermin.

Sounds a bit like Woody Allen.

When that kid is 20 and she's 30, yeah that'll be awkward in social settings...

I cannot think of a penalty too harsh for this guy if guilty. Yes, even that.

Simple, she's the "older" sister.

They have to consider capital punishment for vermin like this.

If the baby is given away for adoption, it won't be.

I missed the last part. Very strange. God forbid if this was my child, adoption would be the only option.

Good for you thinking adoption. I'm so jaded regarding Washington CPS my first thought was that they'd find a way to insure the "father/stepdad" would have unlimited visitation.

Yep. The ideal would have been for this not to happen in the first place. Talk about moral dilemmas.

I hope social services is checking to see if "mom" knew what the "vermin" (no better word without getting banned) was doing to her daughter. A lot of times creepy moms will turn a blind eye so they don't lose their man (I'm going to be sick.) The baby indeed needs to be put up for adoption and the 10 year-old is going to need a lot of therapy. So sad.

" I hate to think of all the other times this child was raped by this vermin."

I agree completely! But I ABSOLUTELY LOVE to think of all the times this pervert is going to get raped and "impregnated" nightly where he SHOULD be going, but I have my concerns about any court in WA.

We sorta touched on that a few posts up and you're very right. Sadly CPS in WAshington has a dismal record of protecting children. I'm waiting for more details to come out about this guy's past sex crime history.

Prison would be a good place for a good shanking in this case.

Actually he pleaded "not guilty". Courts don't accept pleas of "innocent".

Remember, this is a "blue state," and , therefore, such behavior is probably socially acceptable. I'm sure if he is able to describe his kiddie-diddling in terms of a protest against drilling for oil in California, eating Spotted Owls or gender based discrimination, the jury will let him walk! Again, it is a blue state!

I agree, but it happens in Democrat households from time to time. *S*
