WASHINGTON -- A lifelong boxing fan who himself trains in the ring twice a week, Rep. Peter King is not one to run away when it comes to confrontation -- even when it comes in the form of a letter from a constituent.
"I understand that you recently contacted my office requesting that I vote to censure President Bush," King, a Republican from Seaford, recently wrote Bellmore resident Harry Halikias. "I disagree with you in every respect. You are morally, intellectually and politically wrong. President Bush is an outstanding leader of outstanding integrity. Like Ed Koch, I thank God every night that he is our president. You should do the same." Halikias, 28, a computer systems analyst, was taken aback by King's missive, which he said was an unwarranted response to his initial letter.
"I was somewhere between shocked and disappointed that someone elected to represent us would use that kind of language," said Halikias, a Democrat who says he may have once voted for King. "I think he took it personally when he didn't have to. I didn't question his morality or intellect."

In other words I gather here, that the Congressman should hae sent a smiling letter, trying to be "bipartisan" comprimise with the Libs so we can all get along. They need to get along with us and be polite.
ALL people should receive an honest reply.
You are right, should rephrase that statement.
Pete
Predictable results when a jerk writes to a fool.
I have always enjoyed hearing what King has to say. He sure knows how to handle the passive-aggressive Democruds. Quote of the week material about the tranquilizer.
I don't think the congressman's language was abusive, he just told it like it was.
The libs can't stand a well phrased counterargument. They crumble and counterattack with a bunch of lies like, "he was verbally abusive."
Loaded phrase, no meaning, no definition. Most people, however, swallow it whole: He was abusive.
It 's just another sign of the wimpification of girlie-man America.
Kudos to Rep. Peter King
These people--and this writer--are kidding, right?
I hope this was a joke.
Put a "D" in front of King's name and he'd be hailed as a courageous hero. He probably would be booked 3 days in a row with Katie.
If you say something morally bankrupt and stupid, expect to be called on it. It is not necessary that you question another person in the exact same regard. Sometimes you make a fool of yourself, all by yourself.
Perhaps I should send letters to the paper about the staffer that started SCREAMING at me from SINator Feinstein's office.
I am sure that would do no good since I was wrong to think that I, a citizen of the US, had NO RIGHT to call her office as I do not live in California.
"I think they should be honored they have a congressman who actually listens to them -- even if they are not making sense," King said. "I respond to them and they run crying to the newspapers. It's just like the kid who's a wise punk, then when someone takes a shot at them they go running to the teacher."
I LOVE this guy! I write to that fool Boxer, here in California, all the time, demanding an explanation of her position on various issues, and all I get back is some pre-digested pap on some other issue. I'd much rather have a representative who actually responds to what I say, even if he disagrees. But then, I'm not a liberal weenie.
He sure sounds like a wuss. I think we ought to see his letter, since he asserts that the response he rec'd was inappropriate.
