In case of SCOTUS vacancy......

Can someone please calm my nerves. All this talk about who Bush might appoint is worrying me. I don't care if a liberal judge, moderate judge, or conservative judge retires, Bush has promised he will appoint originalists to the court. The idea is not to keep the status quo and replace a moderate judge with a moderate. The whole point of working to reeelect Bush was to get him to replace conservatives with conservatives, moderates with conservatives, and liberals with conservatives. I think for the most part, Bush, Rove, Mehlman know they must do this as not to piss off everyone that worked to get Bush reelected for this reason. So why is Alberto Gonzalez being mentioned as a possible SCOTUS nominee? I don't care who it would be to replace, we can not accept his nomination. Besides, I doubt he could even get confirmed because Democrats would be united against him because of the torture memos and I would hope at least 6 Republican senators would vote against him because he is pro-choice. Can somone please reassure me that Bush and company would not be so stupid to play politics (appointing a Hispanic to the court) over what they have promised and seem to believe in, restoring order to the courts by nominating originalists to the SCOTUS!!! Thanks freepers.

It seems like you can't trust any of these judges once they get on the bench.

Relax. Judges will either resign or not. Bush will appoint conservatives or not. They will be confirmed or not. Our only role is in numbers 2 and 3. Those haven't come yet.

Keep your powder dry and relax until then.

Bush will not be able to appoint anybody without the approval of the dems and rino's.

Do you like what you know about Bush's prior appointments? Did you like Pryor, Brown and Owens? Do you like Bolton? Do you like Rice? Did you like Ashcroft? Did you like Powell? ect?

If you did like all or most of his appointees so far, then you have to have faith. If not, then you of course have worries.

FWIW, RedState.org claims to have an "extremely credible" source with some knowledge of what's going on. According to the site, Luttig and Garza are planned to be Bush's first two nominees to the Supreme Court (presumably to replace Rehnquist and O'Connor). If Luttig isn't interested, John Roberts would be the pick.

If a third spot opens up (presumably one of the liberal judges), Bush would go with either Gonzales or a sitting US Senator from a state with a Republican governor. According to "the source", Bush "really, really, really wants" Gonzales on SCOTUS, but understands it would be very damaging to his political base.

Again, FWIW.

There are three reiable voices (Thomas, Scalia, and Rhenquist), two schizophrenic (O'Connor and Kennedy), and the rest are pure liberals who ALWAYS vote liberal.
