Rumsfeld named Pepsi 400 grand marshal From Staff Reports

June 30, 2005, 4:26 PM EDT

U.S. Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld today was named grand marshal for the 47th running of the Pepsi 400.

Rumsfeld will give the command 'Drivers, start your engines' in NASCAR's summer stop at Daytona International Speedway. The race is set to begin 8 p.m. Saturday.

Rumsfeld will also lead the 43-car field in the pace laps from the grand marshal pace car.

"It is only fitting to have Secretary Rumsfeld serve as Grand Marshal for an Independence Day weekend tradition like the 47th Pepsi 400," said Speedway president Robin Braig. "We are honored and privileged that Mr. Rumsfeld will be on hand to witness one of NASCAR's grandest nighttime spectacles." Copyright © 2005, Orlando Sentinel

Nah. They'll just keep on assuming Nascar fans are idiotic rednecks and go on their merry ways. LOL!

Seattle is building a Nascar track, did you now that?

Go Biffle!

NASCAR is the most patriotic of sports. A couple of years ago fans were given cards at Richmond that spelled God bless America when the crowd held them up. It was pretty awesome.

I didn't get to the race at MIS this year because my dad wasn't feeling well but the F16s flew over the house on their way to the track.

We did something similar at Bristol last August. And then there was that guy that parachuted with the giant American flag.

Awesome!

Bristol. Race'n the way it ought to be.
