"Watch what you wish for regarding democracy. The Iranian people overhelmingly want to have nukes."
That's been one of my concerns about the whole "democracy" emphasis in our policy toward the Middle East. It's easy to get most of a population dreaming of greater and greater power, ala Pakistan or Iran. Massed millions of Islamo-fascists obsessed with nuclear weapons can be a lot more dangerous than a few autocrats who can (sometimes) be killed, deposed, threatened, etc. Democracy is not the panacea many seem to think, when dealing with cultures which have never known it and do not share a whole cluster of other related values...... (and let's not forget Hitler's Germany - although the Nazis never got more than 1/3 of the vote before they created a dictatorship, they certainly became increasingly popular in Germany throughout the '30s and into the 40s, not that anyone could successfully challenge them in electoral terms, but a large majority of Germans in 1940 would have enthusiastically embraced nuclear weapons for the Nazi state).
Khadaffi, unlike Saddam, was responsible for terrorists acts that killed Americans. But because Khadaffi is now willing to play ball with our internationist elite, he's now on the good list.
Regarding democracy in Iran, we don't have any basis to complain after what we pulled in 1953. Go on living in your dream world.
Well put and I agree except for one quibble. There is no such thing as "Islamofascism". That's a term made up by neocons who are too cowardly to criticize Islam. Islam's bad enough. In order for an ideology to exist, you must find adherents who identify themselves as such. You will never find someone claiming to be an Islamofascist.
Interesting that you are starting with insults.
Means you lost.
Have a nice evening.
I didn't know there was a winning and losing. You're a genius in your own mind and woefully ignorant of history and not a very astute reader. Enjoy your "victory". LOL.
I must be, you started beiing insulting.
thanks, terrorists 'all look alike, to me'....
hold your fire for the bad guys, you two...we are the good guys.
Some have bigger noses. lol
knock, knock, knock.....hello?
We're talking about Iran. You apparently have a lot of reading to do. Read up on elections in the Soviet Union.
Iran is run by a Supreme Leader, Khamenei. Everyone is answerable to him. He is the final decision-maker on everything, including who gets to be a candidate.
Seeing as how it's a dictatorship, and Khamenei knew the results before the ballots were counted, it's best not to put too much stock in results & figures regarding the election.
We believe this is him:

Ex-Iranian Agent: Photo Not Ahmadinejad
**********************
TEHRAN, Iran (AP) -
A top Iranian former secret agent said Saturday that the hostage-taker in a 1979 photograph that has come under intense scrutiny is not President-elect Mahmoud Ahmadinejad but a former militant who committed suicide in jail.
Saeed Hajjarian, a top adviser to outgoing President Mohammad Khatami, identified the man in the photo dating to the 1979 U.S. Embassy siege as Taqi Mohammadi.
Now it's getting interesting!

Nope, we were wrong on both guys, neither is the new president.
yeah, maybe, but THEY ALL ARE TERRORISTS!!!
heh-heh...
E at the B - love your scratch-out skills...
Thanks Race. I believe the hostages too even if we don't have a pic. Yet.
I'm going out on a limb and say I know a lot more about Iran than you.
Rafsajani was NOT Khamenei's guy. I don't know any Iranians or any serious mideast writer who thinks that. Please provide a link so we can find out the source of your misinformation.
