It would be interesting if the leaker turned out to be one of the same CIA agents that Bolton was looking at.

What do you think about this talking point of a "administration official leaking for political revenge?"

For the life of me I cannot figure out WHAT political revenge a leak would accomplish?

The MSM and the left conspirazoids have never made up motives that sound reasonable to me, NEVER have they EVER had a logical motive for the myths the create.

I think the same thing you think: It's nonsense.

Clearly when Wilson revealed himself as the "former diplomat" sent to Niger to investigate claims of Iraq and yellowcake, many in DC wondered "What? Joe Wilson is rabidly anti-Bush administration...why would the CIA send him on such an errand?" So, when reporters asked this, some in the know replied with an explanation (I'm guessing one or both of the two Novak sources are CIA---if the second one isn't CIA, I'm guessing State).

It was not revenge, and some pro-Wilson types were telling it (Cliff May recounts this) in order to buttress Wilson's credibility and patriotism before party (which turned out to be b.s.).

This is hilarious -- you couldn't write a better ending to the story then to have the press be the leakers. How are they going to spin that one?

Very easy, call in Dan Rather!!!

I've got a flamin' liberal co-worker who is gleeful and almost (ahem) with anticipation over Rove being the source. I might have a case of schadenfreude when the source isn't him. hehehehe

That is how I remember it too, so I'm not going crazy!

It seems that Wilson claimed publicly Cheney SENT him, and ignored his report, Cheney then DENIED he sent him on MTP, explaining that he asked the CIA to look into it.

THEN Novak did a story in which he was told that "no", Cheney did NOT send Wilson specifically, but that someone at the CIA probably recommended he go, ie, his wife works in that the WMD division.

If this is roughly correct all reporters that have repeated this "vengeance" story are simply not professional, and are being completely political. Even if there is a crime, that is enough, why spice it up with a revenge story.

It is blatant, and makes me feel there is NO professionalism left anymore, and NO free press we can depend on.

It is not good for our country at all.

Dropping aitches is not the exclusive purview of the Cockney, I recall going on a tour of St Georges Chapel in Windsor Castle as a young boy and our guide, a well heeled member of the clergy with a very aristocratic accent, proceeded to drop every aitch but put an aitch on every word beginning with a vowel, so we were lectured, for instance, on "'Enery the Heightve" and "Hedward the Confessor"

His worry that " his journalistic reputation will be tarnished" is understandable, whats not is

his total disregard for the George W Bushes reputation, or Carl Rove's reputation being tarnished

while he covers his "sources/drinking duddies asses.

Journalistic integrity = honor among theives.

I'm just so surprised that people of all stripes, in America, still do this. Duh! The "h" is not silent.

Before its independence, Jamaica's British influence was most often felt in the school system. A little boy came running to his teacher, crying, "Teacha! 'arry 'it me in de 'ead wid a 'ammer." The teacher was incredulous. "Hemphasize the haitch, you hignorant hass!"

So which reporter is going to be made an offer he/she can't refuse to take the rap for Wilson?

I remember little about this, but weren't the democrats initially attempting to lay this on Rove?

This is just too good!

If true, the MSM is going to drop this story like a hot potato. Move on -- nothing to see -- no story here...

You got that right. There will be less news coverage than Sandy Berger's plea bargain deal.

Lawrence O'Donnell was on CNN's Aaron Brown last night. You can read what he had to say here:

We do not drop our aitches.

What're you, 18F, some kinda hoidy-toidy 'r somethin'? It's wot I was taught in grade school...but used only with certain words. I wouldn't say it was an hard habit to break though. :o)

(I still have trouble hearing people use the aitch when discussing herbs.)

The so-called "leakers" told Novak, etc. that Wilson's wife, by maiden name or not, was connected to the story not to harm Wilson's ego, but to make the story they told seem more important.

I like your take on it.
