BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

Another tragedy caused by ruthless, barbaric thugs of extremism. I've been watching FNC's coverage of the disaster since I woke up. They've already got the experts on, as well as various footage and even those cell phone videos from down in the tunnels. Just creepy stuff. These wastes of life need to be brought to justice.

Not that I totally disagree with you but our Grandfathers defeated those enemies with internment camps.

We do what we can do.

They seem to be during a.m. rush hours. I read on quite a few posts that the times of the London, Madrid and 9/11 attacks were the same but I don't see that. I think the a.m. rush hour is the key here.

"Dems are in big trouble...let' them hold more hearings about "abuse" at Gitmo, "debasing" Korans, and the Downing Street Memo...that'll get them a lot of votes.."

and let the dems continue to thwart the process for seating a member of the Supreme Court. Let them continue to obstruct for political gain...it's gonna kill them in the 2006 elections.

Re: "The Lord Mayor of London has in the past been very critical of the war on terror, and especially President Bush. Perhaps this is his wake up call.

Did not know that...

However, his comments were very Churchillian... Perhaps he is begining to see the light...

Fax Machines at the DNC will be working overtime until they figure out 'how they feel' about this.

Actually, it's the magic 8-balls that are working overtime now; once they reach a consensus, that's when the fax machines will go into overdrive.

We had internment camps in WW2. Most were based along the West Coast for Japanese-American citizens...

Wish you were right, but one could make the argument concerning those who support terrorists, even though they claim they don't. If you're thinking about various media types, Democrats and their leadership, you're on the right track. All of them should be ashamed of themselves for minimizing the importance of the war on terror.

Statement by President Bush on the Bombings in London

STATEMENT BY PRESIDENT BUSH ON THE BOMBINGS IN LONDON

Gleneagles Hotel Auchterarder, Scotland

1:30 P.M. (Local)

PRESIDENT BUSH: I spent some time recently with the Prime Minister, Tony Blair, and had an opportunity to express our heartfelt condolences to the people of London, people who lost lives. I appreciate Prime Minister Blair's steadfast determination and his strength. He's on his way now to London here from the G8 to speak directly to the people of London. He'll carry a message of solidarity with him.

This morning I have been in contact with our Homeland Security folks. I instructed them to be in touch with local and state officials about the facts of what took place here and in London, and to be extra vigilant, as our folks start heading to work.

The contrast between what we've seen on the TV screens here, what's taken place in London and what's taking place here is incredibly vivid to me. On the one hand, we have people here who are working to alleviate poverty, to help rid the world of the pandemic of AIDS, working on ways to have a clean environment. And on the other hand, you've got people killing innocent people. And the contract couldn't be clearer between the intentions and the hearts of those of us who care deeply about human rights and human liberty, and those who kill -- those who have got such evil in their heart that they will take the lives of innocent folks.

The war on terror goes on. I was most impressed by the resolve of all the leaders in the room. Their resolve is as strong as my resolve. And that is we will not yield to these people, will not yield to the terrorists. We will find them, we will bring them to justice, and at the same time, we will spread an ideology of hope and compassion that will overwhelm their ideology of hate.

Thank you very much.

END 1:32 P.M. (Local)

The blue plaque on the photo you posted says "Charles Dickens lived in a house on this site".

I walked past it less than an hour before the explosion. I am still trying to get my head around this.

The BBC has opened one of their "Have your say" pages and it's rapidly filling with eye-witness accounts from Londoners.

Our grandfathers defeated the armies of Hitler,Mussolini, and Tojo without a Patriot Act.

LOL!

We didn't need a Patriot Act in WWII. We had internment camps!!

"Sorry, but they know that a 'Rat takeover of the Congress will help them, so they'll lay on an event for us, just like they did in Madrid, and for the same reason."

You can't seriously believe that Americans will react like the cowardly Spanish, can you? Personally I believe the effect will be exactly opposite if the towel heads do such a thing.

The intermnment camps were in the Midwest and intermountain regions. It was the West Coast Japanese-Americans that were the occupants.
