BLAST AT CITY TUBE STATION - FOUR BOMB EXPLOSIONS AROUND LONDON
Sky News ^ | July 7, 2005

Posted on 07/07/2005 1:45:13 AM PDT by RWR8189

There has been an explosion at Aldgate East underground station in London, causing the closure of the entire Tube network.

There are also reports that a second incident took place at Edgware Road station in north west London.

The Aldgate East blast was caused by "some kind of power surge", according to Tube infrastructure company Metronet, which is responsible for maintaining the Metropolitan line.

A spokesman said: "We don't know the extent of the problem yet."

A London Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We have just sent some resources out to the scene."

British Transport Police confirmed that there are "walking wounded" and said paramedics have responded to one report of a person classed as "life at risk".

"It's chaos, with people trying to work out what has happened," said a spokesman.

"All we know at the moment is that staff reported a loud bang at 8.49am. No one is sure what caused an explosion, but it is thought it could have been a collision, a power cut, or a power cable problem."

One witness said the packed underground train he was on was 200 metres from Kings Cross when there was a huge flash.

The train stopped and people were using umberellas to smash windows of the trains. Passengers were led out of the train by underground staff.

He added people were milling around Kings Cross covered in soot.

Unfortunately, some here assume any Muslim is a terrorist.

Oh, no, I would separate out, for more positive, normal treatment, every Muslim, who has publicly denounced the terrorist attacks.

On that world-wide list there are perhaps a couple dozen names.

Whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

- Winston Churchill, 6/4/1940

Whatever they do, it is our determination that they will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this country and in other civilized nations throughout the world.

Has Al Qaeda publicly threatened Europe?

Yes, multiple times. In April 2004, Osama bin Laden released a tape offering a truce to European countries who withdrew their troops from Muslim countries within three months. The offer was quickly rejected by governments throughout Europe.

In May 2003, Ayman al-Zawhiri, bin Laden's second-in-command, released an audiotape in which he said, "O Muslims, take matters firmly against the embassies of America, England, Australia, and Norway and their interests, companies, and employees. Burn the ground under their feet, as they should not enjoy your protection, safety, or security. Expel those criminals out of your countries."

In September 2004, Zawahiri released another tape threatening countries who had contributed troops to the war in Iraq. ''We shouldn't wait for the American, English, French, Jewish, Hungarian, Polish and South Korean forces to invade Egypt, the Arabian Peninsula, Yemen and Algeria and then start the resistance after the occupier had already invaded us,'' he said. ''We should start now."

July 7, 1993 Guntis Ulmanis elected president of Latvia

Ah, there it is -- the Latvian connection! It's so obvious!

We might have missed that.

I have been in the newspaper newsroom since an hour ago, but we are just finding out about this now since nobody was checking the wires since we have the stuff we need for today (we are an afternoon paper).

My word. I hope there are not too many deaths.

Whoopie, 1 out of how many? Tell me, would you like to reduce the threat from these savages by 99.999% by profiling, internment or whatever else it tales or would you like to do the P.C. thing so we can avoid OFFENDING any of the assh*les and their lefty brethren?

The Patriot Act isn't going to do much with this problem.

Western Civilization is going to have to decide whether it is more important to allow massive immigration of Mohammedans, or survive.

I don't have a pic of her the morning of Saddam's capture, but this is today on Today:

[Local TV feed for NBC, even on cable, is very poor quality, and her blouse is 'bright'.]

We must also agree to allow a few of our "precious freedoms" to be somewhat compromised (like not letting our EMail be read by the government officials who are trying to protect us) and to get some others enhanced (for example by relaxing concealed carry laws)
The libs would of course suggest tighter controls on guns. Franklin said it best about liberty and security.

Internment camps were not a mistake in any way, shape or form. Better safe than sorry. Expecting to retain, make that demanding to retain all of our civil rights during war time is beyond naive, it utter stupidity.

"We had internment camps in WW2. Most were based along the West Coast for Japanese-American citizens...
Fortunately, President Bush has refused to travel the same road FDR and Earl Warren did.

What in the HELL does this have to do with the terrorist attacks in London?

Sheesh!

I make it a habit to sit out snowstorms instead of trotting off to work. If I were near any terrorist high value target on the way to work, I would do the same today.

Plus I've been there, done that. I got rocked hard in '93 at the WTC bombing then and had half my family there in '01. It's no game and you can't do anything to stop it if you don't know it's coming.

Me too, especially when Tony Blair said what a shame this happened when they were working on "aid to Africa" and "climate change". In other words...we were being P.C.--why did you bomb us?
