ALA Council Calls for Withdrawal from Iraq
Library Journal ^ | June 29, 2005 | ALA Council

Posted on 07/08/2005 7:47:38 AM PDT by katagious

The Council of the American Library Association (ALA) has passed a resolution that calls for the withdrawal from Iraq of all U.S. military forces and a return of full sovereignty to the people of Iraq. The resolution passed June 29 during the annual conference of ALA in Chicago. The resolution further urges the U.S. government to switch its budgetary priorities from the occupation of Iraq to the improved support of vital domestic programs and calls upon the government to provide material assistance through the United Nations for the reconstruction of Iraq, including its museums, libraries, schools, and other cultural institutions. The resolution will be sent to all members of Congress, the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of State, President, and the press. The Council is the governing body of ALA and determines all policies for the association.

Bears repeating:

"The ALA should stick to what it knows-providing porn to children."

I don't think this groups really represents "libraries" but more like bookstores.

Oh, those crazy librarians! When you've got your head stuck in a book all day, it's hard to face reality.

Have these idiots considered that if the IslamoFascists win the WOT, they'll be burning our libraries?

I think FR Council for Acknowledging Public Displays of Abysmal Stupidity and Asininity should adopt a resolution citing the Council of ALA for its shining example of such, specifically naming those beacons of wisdom and knowledge, Tom Twiss and Mary Sue Brown.

I wish these idiots only represented bookstores, but they are in fact Americas largest librarian organization.

I am very close to someone who is a librarian, and I have worked in libraries at several points in my life. I read the ALA journal on a regular basis. The problem is that the ALA leadership is stacked with a bunch of rabid bomb-throwing left-wingers who stifle all opposition to their hate-America socialist agenda.

A large number of librarians down in the trenches have similar views. That's why the public gets a steady dose of liberal propaganda in our public libraries and our children get the same thing in their school libraries.

There are ALA members who attempt to speak out against the left-wing agenda of their organization at ALA conferences, but they are quickly shouted down. Unfortunately for these folks, the ALA is the only game in town. My solution? Those librarians in the middle and on the right who oppose the ALA's socialist leadership should form their own library association. Turn the ALA into a dinosaur. We all know what happened to the dinosaurs.

Acutally, they do represent librarians. Most of the librarians I have worked for have been raging moonbats. I had a support staff membership to ALA a few years ago, but let it lapse because all of the communication we ever received was leftist BS.

The reason I've kept up with this nonsense is because there was recently a posting to an American Association of Law Librarian's listserv a proposal to follow the ALA's lead. Based on the responses on the list, it appears that while many law librarians are somewhat to the left of Stalin, there are enough that aren't to prevent the AALL from making asses out of the themselves like ALA.

The Council of the American Library Association (ALA) has passed a resolution that calls for the withdrawal from Iraq of all U.S. military forces and a return of full sovereignty to the people of Iraq.

I suppose this is an improvement over their other activities such as providing children links to great sites that explain how to have safe-sex with animals or proper techniques for rimming...

Probably should say "100,000 terrorists dead", in which case we are doing the job over there.

Hmmm, they don't want the libraries monitored and are calling for withdrawl from Iraq.

I think Osama could be at the local library...

"What's up with the "100,000 Iraqis dead"? Where do they get these numbers?"

That is my question also...I remember reading a post which cited an actual Red Cross survey where they went door to door through much of Iraq. Their number was less than 25,000 and it included Iraqi military killed at the onset of the war. I believe it also counted "insurgents".
